C-bus II Advanced Multiprocessing Architecture from Corollary Automatically Supports the New Intel 200MHz Pentium; Immediate Compatibility through Decoupled Clock Speed
Business Wire, June 10, 1996
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 1996--Multiprocessing technology pioneer, Corollary, Inc., today announced that its leading Intel-based multiprocessing architecture, C-bus II, provides immediate support for the new Intel 200MHz Pentium CPU.
The C-bus II architecture's unique ability to allow the mixing of CPU and system bus clock speeds, without sacrificing CPU performance, is the primary enabling factor in the multiprocessing bus' automatic support of the faster Pentium processor.
In traditional systems, system bus speeds and CPU speeds are different. These systems require that the bus and CPU have a fixed clock-speed relationship, which can cause systems to relinquish vital CPU performance. Based on a decoupled clock-speed design, the C-bus II architecture enables the mixing of clock speeds. As such, the CPU can run in its native frequency without any performance degradation.
"Because C-bus II was designed from its inception to accommodate faster speeds, it provides instant, total compatibility with the new 200MHz Pentium," said George White, president, Corollary, Inc. "C-bus II not only continues to deliver efficient multiprocessing functionality as Intel increases its Pentium speeds, it also supports the intermixing of previous 90MHz, 100MHz, 133MHz and 166MHz Pentium clock speeds. This speed increase is also further evidence that, even with the Pentium Pro's current status, there is still a significant market for Pentium-based systems."
The many system OEMs currently employing C-bus II multiprocessing technology will greatly benefit from the bus' automatic support for the new 200MHz Pentium. It enables them to take advantage of the advanced Pentium CPU performance with no adaptations to the inherent system design.
The C-bus II is the third generation of Corollary's industry-standard multiprocessing technology. With a fully symmetric architecture that supports up to eight 200MHz Pentium processors and up to 3GB of memory, the C-bus II provides equal processor access to all system resources for exceptional overall system performance. The C-bus II features a high-bandwidth peak transfer rate of 400MB per second and a 64-bit-wide bus for a high degree of application scalability. With a third-level cache to further boost system performance, C-bus II offers not only integrated ECC memory but also a unique ECC bus for assured data integrity.
Pioneering advanced technology which extends the power of Intel-based processors, Corollary, Inc. is the industry's leading developer of multiprocessing and communications products that cost-effectively increase processing capacity and support for multiple users.
