EPSON announces new technology alliance partner at the Retail Systems Show; responding to customers' open architecture needs, EPSON expands its role in the POS market
Business Wire, June 11, 1996
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 11, 1996--EPSON Tuesday announced an alliance with Innovax for the support and resale of the SX, DX and Pentium versions of EPSON's Intelligent Terminal, a core component for open architecture point-of-sale systems that combines powerful computing and printing in a small footprint.
"Epson's goal is to provide retailers with cost-effective systems that are easily upgradeable and have the widest compatibility with off-the-shelf peripherals and POS software," said Bud Weist, business unit director for EPSON. "Innovax shares this open systems philosophy and has partnered with EPSON to provide retailers in the grocery industry with versatile, yet cost-effective POS software solutions.
"This partnership allows retailers to combine a variety of hardware and software solutions for a completely open architecture system," Weist added.
The EPSON IT has been added to the list of supported hardware platforms on Innovax's AURORA Supermarket Application. Development work is currently under way to support the EPSON Pentium IT on Stargate, Innovax's next-generation WIndows 95-based point-of-sale solution.
"Innovax believes that open systems give retailers the choice to access their data where they want it, how they want it and the way they want it," said Fred Lawrence, president of Innovax. "This partnership allows retailers choices so they can get the most cost-effective, yet versatile solutions."
Known for advanced technology and reliability, EPSON's POS product line includes: the TM series of printers; the IT series of intelligent terminals; customer displays; and handheld computers.
