Business Wire, June 17, 1996
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1996--Brother International Corp. announced its intention to work with Oracle Corp. on the implementation of Oracle's NC Reference Profile 1 compliant products.
"As the network computing industry continues to grow, Brother will strive to provide consumers with user-friendly products that will enable them to easily take advantage of the many benefits that come with internet access," stated Dean F. Shulman, Senior Vice President, Brother International Corp.
To this end, Brother will work together with Oracle to harness these NC Reference Profile 1 functionality standards and incorporate them into future products. The end result of Brother's investment in this new platform will be the creation of network computing products whose ease of use and affordability will provide virtually everyone with the opportunity for internet access.
"Brother's mission is two-fold: to provide consumers with products that have the capabilities consumers need to get the job done, whether it's typing a letter or surfing the internet. At the same time, products must be simple to understand and reasonably priced. Like all current Brother models, all forthcoming NC compliant products will meet these important Brother requirements," Shulman added.
The Network Computer(TM) also branded the NC(TM) is a set of appliances based upon open standards for networked computing and communications. The NC provides inexpensive internet/World Wide Web access and applications for a wide range of users in business, educational institutions, consumers and developing countries. The Network Computer truly redefines what a computer should be: small, inexpensive, easy to use, and without the complexity and cost associated with today's personal computers (PCs).
NC Reference Profile 1 is a general platform for network computing devices, based on existing industry standards. This profile is composed of a set of guidelines designed to facilitate the growth of the network computer industry, making multimedia internet access ubiquitous.
