Business Wire, June 17, 1996
WILMINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 17, 1996 -- Agfa Typographic Systems today announced that Brother International Corporation has licensed the Agfa Font Manager for use within its new HL-730DX laser printer. The Agfa Font Manager is a comprehensive Windows font management utility for printer and software application developers. Brother will distribute the product as the Brother Font Manager, offering the software with 96 compressed MicroType fonts.
"With Brother using Agfa products, it further solidifies support for the Agfa Font Manager throughout the electronic printer industry," said Doug Shaw, Agfa's OEM Business Unit Director for Typographic Systems. "Customers have always had difficulty with font management, but now with the Agfa Font Manager they can easily install, de-install and manage all of their available Windows fonts."
"With an increased selection of high quality fonts from a number of resources, end users have demanded better font management," said John Wandishin, Director of Marketing for Printers at Brother. "The Agfa Font Manager will provide Brother customers with a font management utility and access to industry standard typefaces."
Brother's HL-730DX printer features 6ppm speed, true 600x600 dpi resolution and a genuine straight paper path. The printer, along with others in the HL-700 Series line, has the ability to print on envelopes up to 9"x 12", which no other desktop printer can do.
Viewing and printing functions are available with the Agfa Font Manager to assist users in font selection. Users can print font samples of all typefaces available, or specific personal groups. The Agfa Font Manager, which can be bundled with any major font format including MicroType, TrueType, and Type1 fonts, is easy to use and contains an on-line help system eliminating the need to provide costly documentation for Agfa Font Manager users.
