Objectivity & OpenCon Demonstrate Industry-First Network Management Application at Supercomm; Objectivity Inc. Teams with Motorola to Deliver TMN Solutions
Business Wire, June 18, 1996
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 18, 1996-- Objectivity, Inc. will demonstrate a Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier (NGDLC) application in the Motorola booth at Supercomm in Dallas, June 24 - 27.
This state-of-the-art telecommunications network manager, built by OpenCon Systems, Inc. (OCS) and based on Objectivity/DB is being demonstrated on both Motorola XR TM Series platform and on Microsoft Windows. The software, designed specifically for telecommunications providers, continuously monitors system availability, alarms and performance. It manages TR-303 standard managed objects in Objectivity/DB, the high performance, distributed object database.

Traditional telecommunications management network (TMN) applications have been developed on either proprietary or legacy relational databases, and typically support only local network management. However, the new combination of Objectivity/DB and OCS's Generalized Element Management System (GEMS) can transparently distribute the management information base (MIB) across a network. Objectivity/DB can provide a single logical view of the distributed MIB to all network element managers across heterogeneous hardware platforms.
According to Steven Gordon, Vice President of Marketing for OCS, "Now NGDLC equipment plus transmission and switching elements can all be managed in this open and uniform manner. GEMS demonstrates how to fully maintain the rich functionality of an object oriented environment reaping the benefits of code and object reuse."
This NGDLC application is similar to others already in use by Objectivity customers such as Siemens and Qualcomm. "Our OEM customers require high performance systems they can rely on. Both Objectivity's software and Motorola's hardware are uniquely designed to meet the needs of the telecommunications industry," explained David Caplan, Objectivity's President and CEO.
