CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 1996--Pilot Software Inc., a company of the Dun & Bradstreet Corp. and a leading global supplier of decision support software, today announced that its Pilot Discovery Server won META Group's Data Mining Gold Rush, a challenge to mine interesting and important information out of a 163-item survey at DCI's data warehousing conference in Santa Clara, June 11-13.

All vendors at the conference were eligible to enter -- including Angoss Software, Arbor, Comshare, IBM, Microstrategy, Pilot, Planning Science, Red Brick, SAS Institute, SGI and others. The companies that participated were given conference attendee information compiled by Market Perspectives and META Group and allotted less than 24 hours to mine this data to deliver demographic and psychographic information about show attendees. Pilot received the data from conference organizers on Wednesday evening, June 12 and provided information for an effective, targeted sales program by 2:30 p.m., Thursday, June 13.
"With this victory we've demonstrated our technical prowess in deploying data mining and delivering immediate results," said Eric Kim, Pilot's president and chief executive officer. "We were able to readily exploit Pilot's breakthrough architecture, which integrates predictive modeling with the data warehouse to deliver predictive results in an easy-to-use, convenient manner."
"Pilot proved that its product could be put to the test and deliver the data mining results that the market has been waiting for," said Karen Rubenstrunk, senior research analyst, application development strategies, META Group. "Although many companies are promoting data mining solutions, Pilot has shown that it is up to the challenge and can provide companies with the results they seek -- today."
