Emergent Teams with MicroStrategy to Build Highly Scalable Database Systems Accessible via the Web; "Consumerization" of Data Warehouses Results

Business Wire, June 24, 1996

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 24, 1996--Emergent Corporation, the leading professional services firm in the area of commercial parallel processing and scalable application development, today announced their partnering agreement with MicroStrategy, Inc., the largest provider of relational on-line analytical processing (ROLAP) tools.

By combining Emergent's scalable application design techniques with MicroStrategy's high-end DSS 4.0 product suite, decision support applications can be built that give companies and individuals the ability to analyze very large data warehouses, at any time and from any place in the world via the World Wide Web.

The partnership provides customers with an innovative set of products and a unique set of services focused on expanding the reach of the data warehouse. This expansion, known as "consumerizing" the data warehouse, extends the data warehouse to increasing audiences such as employees, strategic business partners, outside vendors, corporate customers, and individuals to further increase the value of the warehouse.

The partnership will address the needs of customers who want to build very large decisions support systems. MicroStrategy's DSS 4.0 product suite, with its `no limits' architecture, provides the technology foundation for building applications that leverage very large databases (VLDB's) and the World Wide Web.

For high-end data warehouse applications, these products will be coupled with Emergent's recently announced application design technique, known as the Scalable Program Management Framework (SPMF). SPMF is the first methodology specifically designed for building highly scalable database applications on top of symmetric multiprocessor (SMP), clustered, and massively parallel (MPP) hardware platforms, resulting in applications that have unprecedented levels of scalability and adaptability, thereby eliminating systems that are outdated soon after completion.

According to Sanju K. Bansal, MicroStrategy's chief operating officer, "MicroStrategy's `no limits' DSS 4.0 architecture opens the data warehouse to the enterprise and beyond. Working with Emergent, we are addressing the needs of the most sophisticated data warehouse users who want to support analysis on very large data warehouses being accessed by a continually expanding user population. As leaders in our respective fields, MicroStrategy and Emergent are building a strong marketing and technology relationship that provides flexibility to tailor solutions to customers around the world."

"As a consulting company focused on providing scalable solutions to complex business information needs, we help our clients build some of the largest data warehouses in the world," said Ken Rudin, Managing Director of Emergent Corporation. "MicroStrategy's 4.0 architecture is optimized for working with these large warehouses, and by partnering with them we will be providing a complete solution to customers who want to turn their visions of the future of data warehousing into a reality. MicroStrategy's 4.0 architecture will be a critical component in allowing us to design and build decision support systems for our clients that truly have `no limits'."
