Harris Computer Systems announces agreement with Security Dynamics to provide corporations with enhanced security for Internet and Intranet applications
Business Wire, June 24, 1996
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 24, 1996--Harris Computer Systems Corp. (NASDAQ:NHWK), a leading provider of computer security solutions, Friday announced an agreement with Security Dynamics Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:SDTI), a leading provider of security authentication solutions, to integrate SecurID(r) token user authentication technology in Harris Computer Systems CyberGuard(tm) Firewall.
SecurID technology is a dynamic, two-factor password alternative for identification and authentication of users attempting to access computer networks. SecurID token technology easily allows access to authorized users while systematically denying access to unauthorized users.
The CyberGuard Firewall is a multi-level secure computer that resides between a company's internal network and other external networks such as the Internet to prevent intrusion from outsiders looking to penetrate a company's sensitive and proprietary data.
Security Dynamics' SecurID tokens operate in conjunction with ACE/Server network security software, and provide CyberGuard Firewall protected users with a level of user authentication significantly more secure than the reusable password typically provided in firewall technology. To access a protected network, the user enters his or her secret personal identification number (PIN) followed by the current code displayed on the SecurID token's LCD. CyberGuard also uses SecurID authentication within its proxies that control file transfers, remote logins and terminal network connections. The two-factor passcode within SecurID provides a high level of security for networks while affording maximum user convenience and cost effectiveness.
"Pleased with Harris Computer Systems' reputation for creating powerful firewall solutions, Security Dynamics has developed a relationship that will help create comprehensive security solutions to protect vital corporate information," said Steve Artick, director of strategic relationships at Security Dynamics. "The interoperability of SecurID technology and the CyberGuard Firewall with its B1 level evaluated operating system and network product, provides a powerful security solution that is exceedingly difficult to compromise. With more and more users accessing their corporate information from remote locations, the threat of attack from unauthorized users is increasing rapidly. Therefore, it is imperative that network managers employ proven and potent security measures to protect their corporate information."
Robert Carberry, president and general manager of Harris Computer Systems Trusted Systems Division, noted: "This alliance with Security Dynamics further strengthens our efforts to provide customers with a broad range of secure solutions to fit their specific requirements. Many of our customers already use SecurID within their business. Now the same patented authentication technology can be part of our CyberGuard Firewall solution, providing superior enterprise security without sacrificing performance or convenience."
Security Dynamics, located in Cambridge, Mass., designs, develops, markets and supports a family of security products used to protect and manage access to computer-based information resources. The Company's family of products employs a patent-protected combination of super smart token or software technology and software or hardware access control products to authenticate the identity of users accessing networked or stand-alone computing resources.
