Technical Data Freeway Announces the First Synthesizable 32-bit RISC Microprocessor Core Designed for Customization

Business Wire, June 3, 1996

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1996--Technical Data Freeway, Inc. (TDF), the leading Intellectual Property (IP) core provider, today announced availability of the first synthesizable and scaleable 32-bit configurable RISC processor core specifically designed for easy customization.

The ARC processor core allows designers to custom-tailor the instruction set for almost any embedded application, including graphics, telecommunications, networking, peripherals, and multimedia.

"Designers can tailor this core to extract maximum performance and still maintain a very small die size. It is ideal for any application where you need to transport large quantities of data very quickly," said Gary Wooley, TDF Microprocessor Division general manager. "Some obvious examples include color printers, Ethernet interfaces, and graphics controllers."

Designer access to the ARC processor's source code allows real differentiation of product architecture and implementation. A complementary benefit of this customization feature: It is very difficult for competitors to reverse engineer products created with the ARC core.

"Instead of spending time memorizing a specific architecture," said Frederick Hinchliffe 2nd, TDF executive vice president and COO, "the designer can create his or her own. And do it quickly because TDF provides a complete design kit and full support."

Developed by Argonaut Technologies Ltd., a TDF technology partner, the ARC processor can be used with any silicon vendor.

Pricing & Availability

Available now, the ARC microprocessor will be sold on a design use basis. Contact TDF for pricing.

TDF now offers more than 90 Megacells written in VHDL or Verilog in its Core_Lib. A complete listing of cores plus additional information is available on the Web site: http://www.tdf.com.
