Lotus Notes Now Available On The Ibm Global Network

CHICAGO, Spring COMDEX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1996--As part of its network computing strategy, IBM today announced the availability of IBM InterConnect for Lotus Notes(a), offering enterprises of all sizes secure world-wide reach to Lotus Notes applications over the IBM Global Network.
By combining the power of the IBM Global Network and Lotus Notes in a single service, people can break traditional communications barriers and do things they could never before have thought possible. Whether from a hotel in Budapest, an office in Bangkok, or any of the other 850 cities in which the IBM Global Network operates, people can gain access to corporate applications, create, update, and participate in discussion groups, replicate information, and send and receive e-mail messages as if they were in their office.
"This offering is an ideal hosting environment for intranet and Internet applications capitalizing on the collaborative features and other unique benefits of Lotus Notes," said Jean Proulx, vice president, service integration and delivery, IBM Global Network. "We will provide solutions for customers to access their applications and information without having to invest in the infrastructure and personnel required to maintain a private wide area network."
IBM InterConnect for Lotus Notes includes services that deliver total solutions for customers:
-- Hosting of Lotus Notes applications and databases, giving
remote offices, mobile employees, and external partners such as
customers and vendors access to applications and information.
-- Replication of Lotus Notes applications and databases,
keeping constantly changing information up-to-date.
-- Access to content such as Lotus Notes:Newsstand, providing a
source of selected business and trade publications that enables
organizations and individuals to stay current on business and
technology issues.
-- Lotus Notes mail, allowing Lotus Notes users to send and
receive e-mail messages.
-- Internet mail access, permitting exchange of e-mail messages
and files with Internet users.
IBM will also offer custom management services that help enterprises enhance workgroup productivity. These custom services include deployment and administration, support and maintenance, consulting and design, application development, and training.
Customers Sign On
A number of customers are already starting to benefit from IBM InterConnect for Lotus Notes.
Chart Links is a company that creates electronic medical records that capture and track patient encounters from an initial phone call through a recommended treatment. "With Chart Links software available on IBM InterConnect for Lotus Notes, patient information can be accessed simultaneously by health care providers, administrative and support personnel and health care payors," said Dr. Ron Miller, president of Chart Links. "This allows all parties to more efficiently access information as well as swiftly and effectively communicate and update reimbursement, referral and other payor policies."
DATA Clearinghouse, a company that provides integrated software solutions, is using IBM InterConnect for Lotus Notes to deploy Pro/Fee Management Services, an inter-enterprise, on-line, interactive budgeting, invoice delivery and payment system that helps large corporations make use of external professional service providers such as law firms. "We are seeing tremendous demand for Pro/Fee across all our target market areas," said DATA Clearinghouse CEO William O'Malley. ELEKOM Corporation develops and markets electronic commerce software and partnership solutions. Using EleTrade, an electronic procurement solution that utilizes IBM InterConnect for Lotus Notes, customers and suppliers can facilitate tighter business relationships by automating the customer's procurement process as well as the supplier's processes for electronic catalog distribution and order processing.
