ANDOVER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1996--FTP Software, Inc. today announced it will extend the platform-independence of its CyberAgent intelligent agent product family by enabling the product family to run on IBM's Java compatible AIX and OS/2 platforms in addition to the currently supported Windows 95, Windows NT and UNIX platforms. The CyberAgent intelligent agent technology enables users to develop and deploy secure intelligent agents to manage networks and augment applications. Agents perform critical, delegated tasks across enterprise networks, intranets and the Internet. Intelligent agents are mobile, autonomous software programs that accomplish their tasks by traveling the network executing pre-assigned commands remotely. The CyberAgent product family is platform-independent and includes the CyberAgent SDK which can be used by system administrators, network managers and software developers to create and manage intelligent agents to execute critical processes such as hardware and software asset management and information search and retrieval.
Other products in the CyberAgent family include the CyberAgent Manager, a management package for deploying agents; the CyberAgent Listener, client software that listens for, authenticates and runs agents; CyberAgent Security Packs, enhanced security software which protects against unauthorized or covert agents while maintaining privacy, preserving integrity and confidentiality.
"Availability of the CyberAgent product family on multiple IBM platforms that support Java will help meet our customers' requests for a broad range of Internet solutions," said Patricia Sueltz, vice president, Internet software in IBM's Internet Division. "We are pleased to work with FTP Software and welcome their plans to provide the CyberAgent solution on IBM's OS/2 and AIX platforms."
"To be the defacto standard in Agent application development, Java must run on the most popular platforms in use today: Windows 3.1, AIX, and OS/2," said Glenn Hazard, president and chief operating officer at FTP Software. "We are very excited to help bring Java technology to more platforms. This provides our customers with broader platform choices by further extending the platform-independence of the CyberAgent product family."
