U S WEST Communications, Inc. Chooses NEC Digital Loop Carrier for Small Line-size Applications
Business Wire, June 5, 1996
HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 1996--U S WEST Communications, Inc. (USWC) selected NEC America as the vendor of choice for 100% of its 25 -96 line digital loop carrier (DLC) copper-fed applications. NEC was also awarded 95% of the DLC fiber-fed applications for the same line size for 1996. This announcement strengthens NEC's current position as the main supplier of DLC equipment to all 14 U S WEST states for applications of 25-192 lines.
U S WEST Communications found the ISC-303 DLC to be an economical means of supplying its customers with telecommunications services in the local loop. The ISC-303 DLC is capable of delivering up to 96 subscriber lines per each compact 5.25" x 23" shelf. ISC-303 shelves have the option of being directly fed by either copper T-Spans or fiber-optic cable and can be deployed in both IDLC and UDLC applications.
At present, the ISC-303s are being deployed in NEC's pre-wired remote cabinets, the T-REX and the C-REX. NEC's REX family of remote housing provides a variety of costconserving solutions for loop applications. The REX cabinet is NEC's smallest enclosure with a capacity of up to 96 subscriber lines. The cabinet's small footprint allows it to be mounted on a wall or placed on a pad or pole. The CREX cabinet serves up to 384 subscriber lines and has the versatility to be deployed in many optional configurations including an OC-3 optical hub.
NEC America's Public Networks Group, headquartered in Herndon, VA, develops, manufactures, markets, sells, and services a full line of SONET transmission systems for public networks, network management systems, fiber optic digital loop carriers, and ATM switches.
