OPTi Expands Its Product Lines With New Desktop, Notebook, and Audio Chipsets; New Silicon Solutions Announced at Computex'96 in Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 1996--OPTi Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS:OPTI) announced at Computex'96 today the introduction of its next generation of silicon solutions for desktop and notebook computing core logic, and multimedia products.

The family of products that were released include Discovery (for P6) and Vendetta (for P5) desktop core logic chipsets, Firestar single chip solution for Pentium(R) processor-based notebooks, and the OptiSound 925 and 931 audio chipsets. OPTi is a leading supplier of desktop and notebook core logic and multimedia chipsets to top PC vendors including Acer, Apple, AST, Compaq, Dell, Gateway 2000, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Packard Bell, and Zenith.

Desktop Core Logic Products

The OPTi Discovery chipset provides a highly integrated solution for a fully compatible, high performance PC/AT platform based on the Intel(R) P6 Pentium Pro Processor. The feature set of the chipset can be scaled to address entry level PCs or high-end desktop or workstations, based on Intel's P6 Pentium Pro Processor. The Vendetta P5 Pentium single chip multimedia PC solution provides an extremely integrated solution for fully compatible, high performance PC/AT platforms with integrated Soundblaster(TM) compatible audio, and optionally an auxiliary 66 Mhz PCI for AGP applications.

It supports the Intel Pentium Processor, Cyrix 6x86 Processor, and AMD K5/K6 Processors. As the latest member of OPTi's Desktop Chipset family, it has been designed to be the highest performance Pentium chipset on the market.

Notebook Core Logic

The FireStar 64-Bit CPU Single Chip Notebook Solution combines high performance features with space saving design capabilities for mobile applications. This solution is based on the Intel Pentium processor, Cyrix 6x86 processor, and AMD K86 processor. The scaleable features of FireStar allow design of a high performance multimedia solution, or, by implementing the UMA features, a highly-integrated low-cost solution.

Multimedia Products

The OptiSound(TM) 931 Single Chip Plug-and-Play 16-Bit Sound is an integrated single chip solution for multimedia PCs with full duplex stereo audio and Win'95 compliant 16-bit PnP. The 931 provides a powerful 16-bit DMA interface, 6 stereo channels, and a fully proven Soundblaster Pro and Windows sound system controller. The OPTiSound 931 offers compatibility with industrial PC audio standards, and delivers the most advanced PC audio solution for business, education, entertainment, and other multimedia applications.

OptiSound 925-Plug-and-Play 16-Bit Sound Controller with integrated FM synthesis is a digital audio controller for PC soundcard applications. The 925 is fully Windows '95 compatible and supports APM and DirectSound. The 82C925 supports six logical devices including: audio, game port, MPU-401 MIDI interface, IDE CD-ROM interface, modem interface, and master control. The Sound Controller provides all of the digital and synthesis functions and is compatible with Sound Blaster Pro and Microsoft Windows Sound System standards.
