EveryWare Ships Tango 1.5; popular Web-based development tool now communicates with industry standard SQL databases such as Oracle, Sybase and Informix
Business Wire, March 11, 1996
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1996--EveryWare Development Corp. today announced the immediate availability of Tango version 1.5, an ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) version of their popular Web/database integration tool.
Tango enables webmasters to rapidly create dynamic Web-based solutions that interact with popular databases without writing CGI's (Common Gateway Interfaces) in C , Perl or AppleScript.
Tango connects Macintosh-based Web servers, such as WebSTAR from Quarterdeck Corp., to industry standard databases such as Oracle, Sybase, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, FoxPro, Butler SQL and many others using ODBC. Tango, which originally worked only with EveryWare's relational database server Butler SQL, now works with most databases running in the majority of organizations today.
In a continuing effort to broaden the scope of Tango, EveryWare also announce that they will be shipping the Tango CGI for popular Windows NT and Unix based Web servers in April of this year. Solutions created for one platform will be completely transformable to another without any re-development effort. The Tango Editor is expected to be available for Windows 95 in the summer of 1996.
Enabling Dynamic Solutions
Tango provides Web-site developers with a new level of functionality by empowering them to rapidly create Web-based solutions such as: -0-
- electronic shopping malls
- event registration systems
- conferencing systems
- product and pricing catalogs, and
- enhanced security systems. -0-
Tango was designed to enable rapid creation of dynamic online solutions that interact with databases. It is a Web development tool that appeals to both programmers and non-programmers alike.
"I've been a big fan of Tango since the first time I saw it. I really haven't seen anything else on any platform that compares in ease of use for making databases searchable on the Web. Now, with the ODBC support, I'm even more excited. Our clients have existing data in SQL Server, Sybase, FoxPro, Oracle, and everything else you can imagine.
"Tango with ODBC provides us with one tool that can access all of those systems with ease, allowing us to create solutions that will work no matter what our client is already using. This will translate to faster development and decreased costs for our clients," said Jon Wiederspan, Director of Technical Services, ComVista Internet Solutions Inc.
Tango is comprised of two pieces: the CGI, which enables the Web server to access the database server, and the editor which is the visual development environment used to create Web/database interaction. The editor environment features Query Builders (similar to wizards or templates) that can be used to quickly get solutions online, without writing any code.
Tango's Query Builders automatically generate the HTML and SQL for interacting with databases. The Tango Editor provides full access to every aspect of your solution allowing complete customization of documents created using the Query Builders.
Vendor-Independent Data Access
Tango connects Macintosh-based Web servers to databases such as Oracle, Sybase, Informix, FoxPro, Microsoft SQL Server, Butler SQL and many others running on Windows, Unix, or Macintosh platforms.
"Many of my clients have multiple databases operating on different platforms," said Matthew Meyer from FMS Techniques Inc. "Tango 1.5 enables me to create dynamic Web-based solutions, cutting my development time in half, while utilizing my clients existing database architecture."
Tango provides the performance and reliability of open database access required by enterprises using the Web to provide information from different data sources, operating on different platforms. Tango 1.5 allows organizations to utilize the Intranet (non-public corporate Web servers) by creating in-house solutions such as: corporate directories, internal message forums and internal registration forms.
New Features
Tango version 1.5 introduces a number of features that will empower webmaster to further customize their online solutions: -0-
- custom HTTP headers, supporting redirection, user authentication, and variable MIME types;
- ability to perform common arithmetic calculations;
- return browser specific HTML using begins-with comparisons;
- support for "Cookies," enabling robust transaction management features;
- document debugging, nested conditionals, and streamlined date formatting;
- access to ODBC compatible databases. -0-
"We are continually listening to our customers, using their valuable feedback to create a development tool that meets their specific needs. Tango was designed for webmasters from the ground up enabling rapid creation of Web-based solutions. The new features in Tango version 1.5 will further enable webmasters to rapidly create and customize their online solutions," said Mark Wickens, product manager for Tango.
Pricing and Availability
Tango is available immediately. Pricing starts at $495 for a single server, 2-concurrent user license.
