Border identified as market leader; IDC report names Border Network Technologies as world's No. 2 Firewall vendor
Business Wire, March 12, 1996
TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1996--Border Network Technologies Inc. (Border), a leading developer of Internet firewall technology, was identified as the world's No. 2 supplier of Internet firewall solutions, in a report issued this week by International Data Corporation (IDC) Research. The report, titled "The Worldwide Firewall Market 1995-2000," provides detailed analysis on the development of the rapidly growing Internet firewall market. In the report, IDC recognizes the explosive potential of the Internet firewall market, predicting 174 percent annual growth rate between 1995 and 2000. By amassing more than 9 percent of 1995's total market share, Border has in only two years of existence, surpassed almost all of the other Internet firewall vendors to a position of leadership in the emerging industry.
Founded in 1994, Border has grown to more than 60 employees and has distribution on six continents. As a result of the success of the company's flagship product, the BorderWare Firewall Server, over the last year Border has consistently experienced a growth rate of more than 20 percent each month.
"The positive momentum that we have enjoyed as an organization is a direct result of our ability to understand the needs of our customers," said Steven Lamb, president and CEO of Toronto-based Border Network Technologies Inc. "Early on we realized that people want a network security solution that is both easy-to-use and offers unbreachable security. In choosing BorderWare, customers have found both of these qualities." "BorderWare's "black-box" approach to network security allows users to secure their Internet connection quickly and easily," said Ted Julian, author of the report and Research Manager for IDC's Internet Commerce research program. "Firewalls must be easy to install and manage if they are going to be popular with the mass of organizations that want to be on the Internet, but don't have an Internet security expert," said Julian.
