Rational Offers a Full Day of Free Technical Sessions on Object Technology at Software Development '96
Business Wire, March 15, 1996
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 1996--Rational Software Corporation (NASDAQ: RATL) today announced that it is offering a full day of free technical sessions hosted by Rational experts at Software Development '96, the leading conference for programming professionals, on Wednesday, March 27, 1996.
Rational Day at Software Development '96 in San Francisco
The selection of Rational experts to lead a full day of technology sessions at Software Development '96 is natural, considering the alliance of so many industry pioneers in one organization. In the opinion of Steve McClure, director of object technology at International Data Corporation (IDC), "Rational is in a unique position. They've brought together leading minds in object-oriented engineering -- Grady Booch (the Booch Method), Jim Rumbaugh (OMT), and Ivar Jacobson (OOSE) -- to develop a single methodology that leverages the individual strengths of all three. The results could have a significant impact on software development and the use of object technology."
Rational Day begins at 10:00 a.m. on March 27 with a keynote session entitled "Enterprise Object Strategies with Booch and Jacobson" that offers insights on the recent merger of Rational and Objectory, the firm founded by Ivar Jacobson. Grady Booch has been Rational's chief scientist since joining the company shortly after its founding in 1980, while Jim Rumbaugh and Ivar Jacobson, who developed their methods elsewhere, joined the company in the past couple of years. Booch and Jacobson will discuss how to get the greatest benefits when applying their strategies to enterprise systems at every level, from process engineering to technical implementation.
The second session provides an "Introduction to the Unified Method" at 11:00 a.m. Rumbaugh will explore how the combined strengths of the OMT, Booch, and OOSE methods will support the entire software-development lifecycle, in both the short and the long term. A discussion on "Java and Object-Oriented Modeling" by Dave Tropeano, senior technical consultant at Rational Software Corporation, will be held at 12:00 p.m. In this session, attendees will see how the industry-leading Booch, OMT, and upcoming unified method support distributed systems development with Java.
At 1:00 p.m., Rational's director of object technology, Jon Hopkins, leads "Object-Oriented Analysis and Design: Starting from a Pattern." The presentation will trace an example through analysis and design using two common patterns and equivalent diagrams in the Booch and OMT methods. This session is designed to help developers understand the results of object-oriented analysis and design and how to extend existing patterns to meet design requirements.
Tom Schultz, software-development manager at Rational, follows at 2:00 p.m. with "Iterative and Incremental Client/Server Development," which focuses on a comparison of rapid iterative and incremental development strategies with other common approaches, such as waterfall and RAD. The session will also cover the unique needs of client/server development.
The day ends at 3:30 p.m. with Jacobson's discussion of "Use-Case Engineering" (UCE). The pioneer of UCE will provide attendees with a wide range of knowledge ranging from the three cornerstones of UCE to techniques for capturing and describing use cases, interface and large-system design, and large-scale systematic reuse.
