NEC Technologies introduces the ProServa series of Intel Pentium and Pentium Pro-based servers; High-value servers for Windows NT and NetWare extend industry's broadest spectrum of Intel- and MIPS-based systems

Business Wire, March 18, 1996

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 1996--NEC Technologies, Inc. today introduced the ProServa series of Intel Pentium and Pentium Pro-based servers.

The ProServa series includes three base systems with many different configurations, ranging from an entry-level single-processor server to a four-processor, highly-available symmetric multiprocessing server for the most demanding environments. Today's announcement solidifies NEC Technologies' leadership as the only vendor providing complete hardware solutions encompassing a wide range of computing architectures, all running Windows NT.

"The introduction of the ProServa series, coupled with NEC's long heritage of providing Intel-based desktops and MIPS RISC-based computing platforms for Windows NT, positions NEC as the leading source for complete hardware solutions for Windows NT," said Joseph Wei, NEC Technologies' director of marketing for Intel-based servers. "With the surging demand for distributed processing and increased use of online services, we expect the ProServa series to become an integral component of the Windows NT and NetWare computing environment."

The ProServa series, optimized for the Microsoft Windows NT and Novell NetWare operating systems, includes:

o ProServa V, a single- and dual-processor Pentium-based value system for small to medium print and file server environments;

o ProServa PH, a quad-capable Pentium-based performance system for midrange application server environments;

o ProServa SH, a scalable, quad-capable, high-availability Pentium Pro-based system for business-critical application server environments.

ProServa Series Offers Superior Scalability, Power and Server Management

NEC's ProServa series offers superior scalability in price/performance for Windows NT and NetWare computing environments. The combination of NEC's ProServa series and high-performance MIPS RISC-based workstations and servers supporting Windows NT enable computing infrastructures to grow with a user's business. For maximum performance to run the most demanding applications while easily handling the data throughput required of servers, all ProServa systems offer multiprocessing capabilities. ProServa systems can be easily upgraded for increased performance by inserting a matching second processor board. The ProServa V can be upgraded to dual-processing capability, increasing system performance over a single-processor server system. The ProServa PH and ProServa SH offer symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) to quad-power capability, delivering a significant performance increase over single-processor servers.

All ProServa series systems also feature Intel's LANdesk server management software for user control and security. The ProServa SH series also takes advantage of NEC's Enterprise Server Management (ESM), server software that empowers users with the ability to effectively control business-critical servers and network devices in a distributed computing environment.

Pricing, Configuration, Distribution and Warranty Information

ProServa V and ProServa PH systems are available immediately from NEC's extensive network of authorized resellers. The ProServa SH will be available during the second quarter of calendar year 1996. The configurations available and estimated street prices for ProServa V and ProServa PH systems are as follows:
