Jim Hjelm's reports record revenues for fiscal 1996 first quarter

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 19, 1996--Jim Hjelm's Private Collection Ltd. (NASDAQ: JHPC), a designer, manufacturer and marketer of wedding apparel, today said that for the first quarter of fiscal 1996 ended Jan. 31, revenues were a record $2,313,124, a 34 percent increase on revenues of $1,740,306, for the like quarter a year ago.
Net income for the first quarter of fiscal 1996 totalled $78,109, or $.06 per share, compared to net income of $59,213, or $.05 per share, for the comparable quarter last year.
Joseph L. Murphy, president, attributed JHPC's first quarter revenue gain primarily to increased sales contributed by the company's Occasions bridesmaids dresses as well as several bridal lines, including Lazaro, Jim Hjelm Visions and Couture. He added that the company's realignment of its various products lines, with greater focus on higher margin, trend-conscious styling, also resulted in improved first quarter sales.
Murphy said he expects strong sales growth to continue in the quarters ahead, accompanied by improved quarterly profit comparisons.
Jim Hjelm's Private Collection Inc., founded in 1987 and based in New York City, is the nation's only publicly traded manufacturer of wedding apparel. In addition to the Occasions, Lazaro, Jim Hjelm's Visions and Couture lines, the company also markets Jim Hjelm's Private Collection. -0-
