Internet Security Systems Announces Internet Scanner for Windows NT; Leading Network Security Audit Tool Will Run on Windows NT Platform
Business Wire, March 20, 1996
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 1996--Internet Security Systems, the leading provider of commercial attack simulation and security audit tools, today announced plans to port the award-winning UNIX-based attack simulator Internet Scanner 3.2 to Microsoft Windows NT.
"Many companies use Windows NT as the backbone of their corporate network infrastructure," said Christopher Klaus, Chief Executive Officer of ISS. "By porting Internet Scanner to Windows NT, we are providing the most comprehensive security audit tool on the market to these companies."
Since its introduction in 1991, Internet Scanner has gained widespread acceptance in the market as the best tool for analyzing the security of computer networks. The product uses advanced technology that searches enterprise networks, enabling network administrators to find the weaknesses in their networks before hackers do.
Specifically, Internet Scanner is network scanning software that learns an organization's network and probes each network device for security holes. It then generates a report identifying the security vulnerabilities along with recommendations for corrective action. Checking for over 120 security vulnerabilities, it is the most comprehensive attack simulator available.
Key features of Internet Scanner 3.2 include parallel scanning, which dramatically reduces scan time; Graphical User Interface (GUI) support, for ease of installation and use; and tests for high-risk security vulnerabilities which can lead to system compromise, including:
World Wide Web server security tests
Firewall tests
IP spoofing
Sendmail tests
Tests for Microsoft File Sharing bug
Tests for TelnetD bug
Brute force attacks
The reporting capabilities of Internet Scanner provide information on how to correct network vulnerabilities and include hyperlinks that connect to CERT advisories and vendor Web sites to pull down patches and information regarding network holes.
Internet Security Systems plans to ship Internet Scanner 3.2 for Windows NT in the third quarter of 1996.
