PF.Magic's popular Dogz now available for Macintosh computers; company announces new Kennel Club on The Web
Business Wire, March 5, 1996
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 1996--PF.Magic today announces the release of Dogz(TM) for Macintosh computers, and an enhanced Dogz web site, featuring the Kennel Club for prospective Dogz owners, proud Dogz adopters and, Dogz and dog lovers everywhere.
PF.Magic, known for its unique and innovative digital toys and interactive 3-D games, introduced Dogz for the PC CD-ROM in late 1995. The product quickly became a best seller at computer retail stores nationwide and swept the number five slot on Software Etc. and Babbages' published top ten lists. Dogz are the first-ever pets to live in the world of their owner's computer. The Macintosh and Windows version of Dogz are now widely available to consumers for "adoption" at leading retail outlets or through PF.Magic's web site (http://www.pfmagic.com/dogz). The Dogz web site has already won several awards including: PCSense Shareware of the Month; Cool Site of the Nite, and BATech Catch of the Day.
In addition to adopting puppies at the Kennel Club on the web site, PF.Magic has introduced additional features to help build a community for Dogz and dog lovers. If you want to display your Dogz performing performing a trick, or simply mugging for the camera, take a snapshot with the Dogz camera and upload your photo to the Mutt Mugz photo gallery. Also new to the site is Dogz Tailz - a place for owners to write for advice, compare notes or relay a story about their Dogz. PF.Magic has also developed the Dogz Directory, a listing of PF.Magic's favorite sites about dogs and pets around the world with hyperlink connections. For prospective Dogz owners, there's a Shockwave(TM) animated pooch which provides owners with a sneak peek at Dogz prior to adoption.
Dogz are born as puppies, and through a mix of sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) and a little bit of magic, develop individual and distinct personalities. Just as with the non-digital variety, Dogz respond to human attention. Whether you want to play a game of fetch with your pet, or teach it to perform tricks, the key to having a happy and well-trained Dogz is quality training and play time.
Dogz are available in several breeds, and can be "sampled" before they're "adopted" by prospective owners. Macintosh users can now download a free Adoption Kit from PF.Magic's web site, as have over 100,000 PC owners, and spend time choosing the right pet from one of five different breeds of puppies. Then users can "adopt" a Dogz for $19.95 either at retail or through the company's adoption hotline at 1-800-48-ADOPT.
"Our goal in developing Dogz was to create a living creature who craves interaction, and whose brain resembles the qualities of the non-digital variety," said Rob Fulop, creative director and co-founder of PF.Magic. "With the web site, we want to help build a community for Dogz where owners can interact with each other via e-mail, learn new Dogz tricks or proudly display their Dogz photos much the same way community is built around dogs."
PF.Magic, established in 1991, creates action games and digital toys for CD-ROM based game systems and personal computers. The company has developed some of the most innovative games in the market today. These include Ballz(TM), the first truly 3-D fighting game on the Sega Genesis, SNES and 3DO; PaTaank(TM), a "point-of-view" 3-D pinball game on the 3DO; and Max Magic(TM), the world's first electronic magic kit, hosted by an intelligent 3-D character. Located in San Francisco's Multimedia Gulch, PF.Magic is privately held.
