MicroStrategy Brings Decision Support to the World Wide Web; Joint development underway to bring the World Wide Web and the data warehouse together on Tandem's scalable servers
Business Wire, March 6, 1996
CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 1996--Tandem Computers Incorporated announced today its plan to endorse, research, and jointly develop World Wide Web-based decision support systems (DSS) with MicroStrategy, a recently announced Tandem Alliance Partner.
MicroStrategy's DSS Web is an advanced decision support tool providing the ability to query relational databases from any networked computer with off-the-shelf Web browsers. Tandem NonStop SQL/MP databases will soon be accessible to all authorized end users from any desktop or mobile computer.
DSS Web is an Internet-based server technology that enables end users to access data warehouse and decision support applications through Internet browsers, such as Netscape's Navigator. DSS Web represents a dramatic advancement in warehouse deployment strategies by enabling corporations to roll out decision support applications rapidly and cost effectively, while significantly reducing the impact on a company's information technology infrastructure.
"DSS Web signals a new era in data warehouse access," said Michael Saylor, president and chief executive officer of MicroStrategy. "DSS Web enables virtually instant deployment of DSS applications by removing the obstacles faced by corporations using traditional methods. By eliminating the client hardware and software investments, DSS Web dramatically reduces the deployment, maintenance, training, hardware, and costs of deploying enterprise OLAP applications. MicroStrategy has formed a technology partnership with Tandem to provide an industry-leading scalable, reliable, and highly available data warehouse platform to support large-scale Web-based DSS applications."
"We are excited by the prospect of end users accessing powerful Tandem NonStop SQL/MP databases via the Internet," said Bruce Dougherty, Tandem's vice president of Solutions Marketing. "Now, organizations can build sophisticated applications and tools locally while deploying and managing them globally. DSS will now become an integral part in worldwide sales and marketing decisions."
MicroStrategy is the leading provider of relational OLAP products and services for developing and accessing enterprise data warehouses. MicroStrategy's DSS Agent product line is widely used by Fortune 1000 corporations worldwide, and in alliances and partnerships with a variety of industry-leading companies. MicroStrategy, headquartered in Vienna, Virginia, has offices in Washington, San Francisco, New York, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, London, and Barcelona.
Founded in 1974, Tandem Computers Incorporated (NYSE:TDM) designs technology solutions that companies rely on to compete in a business world that runs 24 hours a day. Tandem's ServerNet architecture is a revolutionary technology providing virtually unlimited bandwidth for media-rich, data-driven business applications.
