Metrica signs deal with DeTeMobil in Germany; Major German GSM operator chooses Metrica/NPR for network performance monitoring
Business Wire, March 8, 1996
WINCHESTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 1996 -- DeTeMobil has chosen Metrica/NPR to provide network performance monitoring for its D1 network. D1 is one of the largest, best established GSM cellular networks in the world. It faces increasing competition from both mature and emerging cellular operators.
Metrica/NPR is used by D1 to provide a consistent, integrated view of network performance data generated by a wide range of equipment vendors. The network employs switching equipment by Siemens and Alcatel and radio systems by Motorola, Alcatel and PKI.
Metrica/NPR absorbs statistics collected - typically every fifteen minutes - from switches, base station controllers or similar network elements. It then provides daily, weekly, and monthly reports on a wide range of network operating parameters such as cell traffic, grade of service, dropped or blocked calls and handover attempts, and gives interactive access to the data in numerous graphical and statistical formats. Metrica/NPR can store and retrieve very large volumes of performance measurements over months or years - information which network managers can use to plan their infrastructure build-out and monitor quality of service.
The Metrica system will initially be deployed in the D1 central management center, with plans to deploy Metrica/NPR to regional operations centers to support the companyUs distributed network management approach.
The Project Managers at DeTeMobil (Mr W. Thiele and Mr J. Kuthe) commented: "Metrica/NPR is giving us the capability to monitor our quality of service in a multi-vendor environment. The system provides us with maximum flexibility in terms of time scale and comprehensiveness. Metrica/NPR lets our engineers retrieve and present information on the network in a sophisticated manner, and lets them use the information as a critical part of our forward network planning decision-making."
Mike Cole, Metrica Marketing Director, says: "With customers in Europe now spanning all cellular technologies and all the major countries, Metrica is rapidly achieving pre-eminence in the European market for network performance solutions, and is becoming the standard package for performance analysis."
