Kodak Optical Disk System 2000 Named a Network Computing 1996 Well-Connected Award Winner; Kodak Optical Disk System 2000 Tops Storage System Category Based on Reliability, High-Capacity, and Price

Business Wire, May 13, 1996

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1996--KODAK, a global leader in optical storage, today announced the Kodak Optical Disk System 2000 has been selected by Network Computing as a winner of the 1996 Well-Connected Award in the category of storage systems.

The KODAK Optical Disk System 2000 was chosen for its ability to provide instant data access for network users.

"Kodak is extremely proud to have been chosen by Network Computing for a Well-Connected Award -- one of the true signs of recognition in the networking arena," said Gerald J. Smart, Worldwide Marketing Manager, Optical Storage Products, Eastman Kodak Company.

"The KODAK Optical Disk System 2000 represents the current generation of network server data storage with its fast access, enormous capacity, and high reliability. We are continuing to invest heavily in the System 2000 product family as our 14-inch optical disk technology evolves to provide continually better solutions for our customers."

The Well-Connected Award was presented to KODAK at a gala event held on April 2, at the Las Vegas Hilton during the Networld Interop 96 Las Vegas trade show and is also highlighted in the April 1 issue of Network Computing.

The KODAK Optical Disk System 2000 is targeted at users who require both read and write capabilities for data intensive applications. The KODAK Optical Disk System 2000 Automatic Disk Library supports ISO 10885 standard media, maintaining backward read/write compatibility with all KODAK 14-inch Media, including 14.8 GB media, 10.2 GB media, and 6.8 GB media (read only).

The proven technology of the KODAK Optical Disk System 2000 has been on the market for 18 months, and is implemented by a wide range of customers from Fortune 500 to US Government agencies.

Capable of handling 25 to 134 14-inch disks with a fast 6.5-second disk exchange rate, the KODAK Optical Disk System 2000 ADL can store between 370 GB and 1.98 terabytes using 14.8 GB media. Network Computing also noted that the KODAK Optical Disk System 2000 incorporates the latest phase change technology for higher performance, a feature which few vendors currently offer with their products.

Regarding the KODAK Optical Disk System 2000, Network Computing wrote in the April 1 issue: "Its stability and reliability are major selling points for those who absolutely, positively cannot afford to lose even one bit of data. Considering the high level of capacity it offers and the fact that it's still considered a relatively new technology, its reasonable price is also a plus."

"The Well-Connected Awards are significantly different from other IS or networking publications' awards," said Patricia Schnaidt, Editor-in-Chief of Networking Computing. "Our awards aren't based on a reader popularity contest or editors' second-hand knowledge of the product marketplace. Our editors have tested these products themselves in our real-world labs. These are the products they would design into production networks of their own. That's what makes the Well-Connected Awards the industry's most coveted and meaningful editor's choice award."

Network Computing, the premier publication driving the Networked Enterprise, serves 185,550(a) Network Technology Drivers twice monthly. The publication was ranked as the best read networking publication for the second consecutive year by both Simmons and IntelliQuest.(b) As the technical authority, Network Computing delivers lab-based, real-world solutions aimed at solving networking software and hardware integration challenges within and across corporate networks in print and online (http://techweb.cmp.com/nwe).
