Internet Security Systems announces upgrade to Internet Scanner; New features expand capabilities of industry leading security assessment tool

Business Wire, May 22, 1996

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 1996--Internet Security Systems, the leader in network security scanning software, today released the latest version of its award-winning network security auditing software - Internet Scanner 3.3, increasing the number of vulnerability checks in the industry's most comprehensive security assessment tool.

The 3.3 upgrade includes new tests for the most current arsenal of hacker artifice, enhancements to the graphical user interface (GUI) and the ability to export files in common reporting formats.

"Network security is fluid and dynamic," said Christopher Klaus, founder and CEO of Internet Security Systems. "If you aren't topical, you can't be effective. That's why we work so hard at keeping Internet Scanner timely. Our customers count on us to always be looking ahead."

Frequent update is critical to Internet Scanner's methodology of proactive security assessment. As an attack simulator, Internet Scanner learns the topography of a network and probes all of the devices on the network for vulnerabilities, allowing users to preempt trouble.

"Our customer's are looking to Ernst & Young for a complete assessment of their Internet and Intranet security," says Kevin Cash, Chairman of Ernest & Young's Internet Services. "We use the Internet Scanner because it is the most comprehensive tool available for assessing network security."

Internet Scanner 3.3 provides a top level view of the vulnerable areas of a network through a color coded network map. Selecting an individual host on the network map drills down to a detailed diagnosis of vulnerabilities and recommended corrective actions for that device.

Key Enhancements Include:

-- Brute force attacks for Cisco Firewalls

-- Checks for Network Information Services (NIS) vulnerabilities

that allow unauthorized remote users to execute arbitrary

programs on NIS servers

-- Brute force attacks for POP3 mail delivery services

-- Expanded denial of service attacks for CHARGEN and ECHO services

-- Enhanced graphical user interface with color coded network map

ISS customers with current maintenance contracts can electronically download this updated version from the ISS web page.
