Business Wire, May 28, 1996
"Netscape Navigator Internet client software and Pacific Bell's service will enable millions of California consumers and businesses to take advantage of the Internet," said Bob Lisbonne, vice president of client marketing at Netscape, adding that the market-leading software supports e-mail, newsgroups and the latest Internet technology, such as Java, Javascript and Plug-ins.
Other important features, including a specially designed Yahoo! Internet directory search page, are part of the company's new Internet access service. The service also has a unique "California Cool" navigational tool for access to local content and information, including a customized gateway to World Wide Web sites on the Internet that provide a wealth of regional news and information of special interest to residents, including such topics as business, science, government, technology, education, sports, leisure, recreation, entertainment and community issues.

In addition, users also will be able to design their own customized home page and develop personalized Web pages. Also in the near future, customers will have access to a nationwide toll-free number through their global service provider that allows them to access their Internet accounts and receive mail from anywhere in the nation.
Alliance With America Online Extends Pacific Bell Internet Brand Nationwide
In another major development, Pacific Bell Internet Services and America Online announced plans that would give Pacific Bell Internet customers access to AOL's online content and communities at a reduced rate. Pricing will be announced at a later date. When finalized, the deal would make Pacific Bell Internet the first regional Bell company to reach an agreement with AOL.
"This alliance strengthens our powerful distribution channel and will conveniently connect our subscribers with the rich array of premium content and variety of online communities through America Online," Hronicek said.
Recognizing that service and support are critical customer concerns and a major competitive advantage in the online access world, Pacific Bell Internet Services operates state-of-the-art customer service, support and network operations centers to provide around-the-clock (24 hours a day/7 days a week) on-line and toll free 800 number technical support and "help desk" functions for both dial up and dedicated access users along with monitoring and management of its statewide Internet access network.
"We have a strong record of providing superior customer service and support and running a reliable network in a state with some of the most sophisticated customers and adverse natural conditions in the world," Hronicek said. "We'll put that record and commitment up against any other provider."
