CSC to develop large-scale Internet applications using CONNECT OneServer software
Business Wire, May 30, 1996
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 30, 1996--Connect Inc., a provider of Internet-based interactive commerce and order- management applications, Thursday announced that Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC), a global consulting and information-technology company, will develop large-scale applications for the CONNECT OneServer software platform.
As part of the agreement, El Segundo, Calif.-based CSC will bring its extensive program management, advanced technology and business consulting expertise to projects involving the development and implementation of custom-branded OneServer applications. In addition, CSC will collaborate with Connect on other new technology- development projects.
According to Tom Kehler, president and chief executive officer of Connect, CSC's experience in managing complex, technology-rich business-change projects will help Connect's customers realize benefits from their applications more quickly and cost-effectively. An additional advantage, he said, is CSC's understanding of the role technology plays in helping companies achieve their business goals.
``CSC is a true global leader in systems integration, with a reputation for providing its customers with superior, cost-effective solutions to real-world challenges,'' said Kehler.
``Together, Connect and CSC offer the capability to build branded interactive commerce sites,'' said Paul Gustafson, senior partner, CSC. ``By jointly identifying potential customers, we can rapidly serve a registry of Fortune-class clients who will now be able to implement effective, turnkey Internet business applications, without enlisting an army of in-house programmers.''
CSC joins other major systems integrators participating in Connect's Solution Partners program. The program is designed to reduce time to market for interactive commerce application development and extend the reach of the CONNECT OneServer platform.
OneServer applications enable Fortune 1000-type enterprises to track, sell and market products and services over the Internet. Connect's Solution Partners receive extensive materials and low-cost access to OneServer software for applications prototyping.
System integrators such as CSC represent one of several distinct audiences under the CONNECT Solution Partners program umbrella. CONNECT is currently expanding its roster of Solution Partners to include both Creativity and Enhancement Partners, with targeted outreach to advertising agencies and design houses, and to providers of Internet access and authoring tools.

Introduced in September 1995, OneServer is based on open standards -- including UNIX, Oracle 7 and the Internet/WWW. The platform supports a full set of APIs for users of Web browsers and custom client (Visual BASIC and Java) applications.
OneServer incorporates a Fulcrum text-search engine and a five- layer security model using RSA protocols. The OneServer architecture reduces the amount of custom code and CGI scripting necessary for dynamic site content, resulting in rapid time to market for interactive commerce applications.
