Jacobs Awarded Polycaprolactam Project From Basf
Business Wire, May 7, 1996
HOUSTON, TEXAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 1996--Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today that it has received an award from BASF Corporation for engineering and procurement services for a new Polycaprolactam (Nylon 6) production line at their Freeport, Texas facility.
Engineering of this new $40 million line is ongoing, and startup is scheduled for the third quarter of 1997.
The facility produces polycaprolactam chip, which is used in fibers and plastics applications. The new line will increase polycaprolactam production at Freeport by 70 million pounds per year. A steady increase in demand for plastics applications and residential textiles is the key driver for this project.
In making the announcement, Tom Hammond, group vice president of Jacobs' Central Region, stated, "Jacobs engineered the last polycaprolactam production line for BASF in 1991. Since BASF is the largest North American producer of polycaprolactam, we are particularly pleased that the BASF Freeport team once again considered Jacobs for this capacity increase program." In addition, Hammond noted that Jacobs is also serving BASF at their Geismar, La. site on a number of debottleneck and capacity expansion programs.
