NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 1996--M.A.I.D. plc (NASDAQ:MAIDY) today announced the appointments of Marmaduke Hussey as a non-executive director and Derek Smith, Ph.D., as an executive director.
Marmaduke Hussey was chairman of the board of governors at the British Broadcasting Corp. ("BBC") from 1986 until March of this year. Hussey started his media career in 1949 when he joined Associated Newspapers, where he was named a director in 1964. In 1967, he was appointed Managing Director of Harnsworth Publications, and in 1971 joined the Thompson Organization as chief executive of Times Newspapers. From 1982 to 1986 he was a director at Times Newspapers Ltd.

Dr. Derek Smith has been a non-executive director of M.A.I.D. since the company was founded 11 years ago. For the past 16 years, Dr. Smith has been with the Economist Group, most recently as president, Asia/Pacific. Prior to that position he was regional general manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for the Economist Intelligence Unit. Before joining the Economist Group, he lectured on economics and statistics at universities in England and Australia, and later spent five years as a U.K. Government economist.
