Data Broadcasting and NBC Desktop Video team on news alerts — other Internet services planned
Business Wire, May 9, 1996
SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 1996--Data Broadcasting Corp. (NASDAQ:DBCC) Thursday announced it has joined forces with NBC Desktop Video to bring news alerts of market-moving events and daily program schedules to DBC Signal and QuoTrek users and to DBC's World Wide Web site (www.dbc.com).
NBC Desktop Video alerts will call to the user's attention programming such as testimony by Alan Greenspan and other key newsmakers, corporate presentations or CEO interviews.
Signal and QuoTrek users will be able to establish a personal profile of industries, companies or topics and be alerted when news that fits their profile is about to begin on NBC Desktop Video. In addition to this program, NBC Desktop Video and DBC are working on several other Internet-related services.
Larry Kramer, vice president for DBC News and Sports Services, said, "This is just the kind of value-added content that our subscribers want and need to make important investment decisions. Our alliance with NBC DesktopVideo enhances DBC's services and creates a more robust product for our broad subscriber base of active investors."
Mike Wheeler, President, NBC Desktop Video: "We have found that our customers do not have the time to sit and watch television on their PCs, but at the same time cannot afford to miss a crucial presentation on the portion of the markets they follow. By alerting them to the stories of particular concern to them, we maximize their use of time and of our product. We are pleased that Signal and QuoTrek will carry our alerts and that we will be expanding our reach to the high end individual investor."
