HP Cuts Prices by up to 30 Percent on 15 Power Supplies

Business Wire, Nov 1, 1996

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 1996-- Hewlett-Packard Company today cut prices by up to 30 percent on 15 models of its high-performance 200-, 500- and 2,000-watt general-purpose, direct-current (dc) power supplies for accurate testing or burn-in of components, subassemblies and final products.

"Labs and production-test areas will find the new lower prices of the HP 6500 series comparable to that of other manually controlled or analog-programmed dc sources that have fewer features and less precision," said Charlie Thompson, product manager at HP's New Jersey Division. "Engineers can enjoy the high-performance features of these general-purpose power sources at very attractive prices."

LOW NOISE AND REMOTE SENSING INCREASE TEST ACCURACY

The excellent performance of the HP 6500 series helps increase accuracy for tests that require noise-sensitive measurements. Ripple and noise on the output is 3 millivolts to 16 millivolts peak-to-peak, depending on the model's voltage and power level.

When sourcing power in the constant-voltage mode, built-in remote error sensing provides stabilized voltage directly at the load by compensating for typical voltage drops in the lead lines. This helps ensure accurate testing without requiring engineers to make additional adjustments.

BUILT-IN PROTECTION SAVES DUT FROM DAMAGE

An overcurrent protection feature provides a safety net for the device-under-test (DUT) by removing the output voltage when the limit set for current is reached. When a DUT has faulty wiring, such as a short, the excessive current may ruin the device.

THE RIGHT POWER FOR A WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS

The three available power levels of 200W, 500W and 2,000W allow engineers to choose just the right amount of power for general-purpose testing of components, subassemblies and final products. The 2,000W HP 6570 series models are excellent choices for burn-in applications. The 200W HP 6540 series and 500W HP 6550 series are useful in a very wide variety of applications, including lightbulb testing/aging, plating, vapor deposition, creation of magnetic fields and life-testing of automotive parts. Production-testing, design-lab and incoming-inspection areas use these dc sources for testing electromechanical components such as wiring harnesses, switches, relays, light-emitting diodes and laser diodes. -0-
