Hayden Eaves returns to real estate; joins L.A.'s IDS as managing director

Business Wire, Nov 1, 1996

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 1996--Hayden C. Eaves III, who oversaw creation of more than 26 million square feet of commercial real estate as Trammell Crow Co.'s top official in Los Angeles and the West before leaving for private pursuits early in 1995, has returned to real estate as managing director of downtown Los Angeles-based Investment Development Services (IDS) Inc., IDS officials announced.

David Mgrublian, managing director of IDS, noting that Eaves reviewed a host of leading area real estate firms before selecting IDS, said Eaves joins Mike Siam, a firm founder, and himself as managing directors.

He said Eaves' responsibilities will focus on strategic planning, managing client assets, and business development. Eaves remains chief executive officer of his own firm, Hayden Holdings of Pasadena.

IDS, which marks its 10th anniversary in November, is a real estate services company focusing on Southern California. The company has a management portfolio that exceeds 11 million square feet, and is currently managing development of more than 1.5 million square feet of space for its clients, including institutional and individual investors.

"While IDS has been highly successful for a decade now, overcoming a major real estate downturn along the way, we are a relatively young company. Hayden Eaves brings vast experience to IDS which all of us can draw upon. Moreover, Hayden has a host of real estate opportunities presented to him by virtue of this experience. Now he can convert those opportunities into reality at an organization with the resources to quickly react to them," Mgrublian said.

Added Siam: "Hayden Eaves' career speaks for itself. His professional success and stature in California real estate circles are beyond reproach. More important, Hayden's high personal ethics and respected style are a perfect fit for IDS's philosophy of doing business."

A long-time resident of Pasadena, Eaves, 51, brings vast experience to IDS built during a 23-year career with Trammell Crow Co. where he was chief executive officer for the Western Region before departing. In that post, he was responsible for managing a 53-million-square-foot portfolio with an estimated value exceeding $3 billion.

Commenting on his move, Eaves said: "I achieved all the personal things I sought to, including spending more time with my grandchildren. Now I'm energized and excited about returning to a business I miss. I talked to numerous firms, and what I like about IDS is they are focused and have a passion for service, are youthful and energetic."

Active in community and professional affairs, Eaves served as chairman of Southern California Junior Achievement, receiving the group's Bronze and Silver leadership awards, and served on the Executive Committee of the Los Angeles Council, Boy Scouts of America. In 1993, he received the coveted Good Scout Award from the Boy Scouts.

The previous year, he was recognized by the National Association of Christians and Jews with its Humanitarian of the Year Award. This past March, Eaves received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the School of Business and Economics, California State University, Los Angeles.

At IDS, Eaves becomes a leader of one of the largest development managers in Los Angeles County whose allied services include tenant representation, property management, construction management and leasing.

According to Mgrublian, IDS is distinguished by a "generalist" approach which responds to the growing needs of clients for a single point of contact to service portfolio needs.

Current IDS projects, representing the gamut of these services, include Biltmore Court & Tower in downtown Los Angeles, ABC Entertainment Center in Century City, and One Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills.

Development and construction management assignments include Vintage Industrial Center, 376,000 square feet in Ontario; Washington Distribution Center, 141,007 square feet in Santa Fe Springs, and District Business Park, 115,000 square feet in Vernon.
