HP Introduces Cable TV Data-Management Software to Help Cable TV Operators Find and Fix System Problems; New Software Automates Data Analysis and Compliance Reporting

Business Wire, Nov 1, 1996

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 1996--To give cable TV operators insight into the integrity of their systems, Hewlett-Packard Company today introduces its cable TV data-management software. This new solution, which runs on IBM-compatible PCs, provides general reporting and graphical analysis of measurement data acquired within the cable TV system. Measurement results can be stored from the HP CaLan 8591C, as well as from the 2010B and entire 3010 family of test instruments. The manual data-entry feature of the software can be used to combine test results from other brands of test equipment, allowing complete analysis and comparison of data from all test instruments used in the cable system.

"In today's competitive climate, cable TV operators need to be able to track the performance of their systems easily to ensure high-quality service to their subscribers," said Brenda Coomes, project manager for HP's Microwave Instruments Division. "Being able to quickly and easily analyze system performance on a regular basis will help cable TV operators find and fix problems before they become customer complaints."

FLEXIBLE OPERATION SAVES TIME

The HP CaLan 85921B data-management software is designed to help cable TV operators identify system performance trends. For flexibility, test plans can be set up once on a PC and downloaded to multiple test instruments, saving operators time by eliminating the cumbersome task of manually re-entering the plan for every instrument. In addition, the cable TV technician can choose which data to analyze: data from one location over time, from all locations on a certain date or from one instrument. This flexibility helps cable TV operators track the performance of their system efficiently.

Cable TV operators also can simplify semiannual proof-of-performance reporting with the optional compliance-reporting feature of the HP CaLan 85921B. This option allows operators to compare measurement results with compliance specifications and display pass/fail messages for each test. It also provides full-report generation for the measurement portion of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements in the United States.

U.S. PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The HP CaLan 85921B cable TV data-management software is available now for $650. The compliance-reporting option is an additional $300. HP is accepting orders now and estimates customer delivery to be three weeks as of Jan. 1, 1997.
