Motorola, Microsoft Taiwan and Acer Sertek Announce Handwriting Recognition Software Promotion in Taiwan

TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1996--Today, Motorola (NYSE:MOT), Microsoft Taiwan, and Acer Sertek announced a 6-week promotional offering of Motorola's WisdomPen (pronounced as "HuiBi" in Chinese) handwriting recognition system, and Microsoft's Windows 95 upgrade version.
The promotional offering will be available through Dec. 31 and includes a WisdomPen digitizing tablet, electronic pen and software, and Windows 95 upgrade package. A second promotional bundle, also available until Dec. 31, will include Trendmicro's PC-cillin 95 antivirus package. -0- NT$4490 Promotional Bundle

More details of distribution and pricing will be given by Acer Sertek at a press conference hosted by Motorola, Microsoft Taiwan and Acer Sertek on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.

The WisdomPen System
The WisdomPen Chinese Handwriting Recognition System is a highly accurate cursive Chinese handwriting recognizer. Running under Windows 95, the recognizer has five dictionaries, which together contain over 20,000 Traditional and Simplified characters. The system works on a complex writing model computed for each character; this model is applied using advanced pattern recognition technologies.
The WisdomPen Chinese Handwriting Recognition System will be demonstrated at the InfoMonth Computer show in Taipei. The InfoMonth Computer Show will be in various cities of Taiwan during December 1996.
