Amdahl Licenses Industry Leading Data Asset Management Software from Legato Systems, Inc.; A+NetWorker Software Targets Windows NT and Solaris Environments
Business Wire, Nov 19, 1996
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 19, 1996--Amdahl Corporation and Legato Systems, Inc. today announced an OEM relationship under which Amdahl will license Legato NetWorker(r) for multiple platforms including Windows NT(r) and Solaris(tm) operating systems. Amdahl has also licensed the right to enhance the software to meet specific needs of compute-intensive companies.
Amdahl offers a growing portfolio of systems and application management software solutions for large enterprises encompassing deployment, performance, operations, asset and security management. The software licensed under this agreement is the latest addition to this portfolio.
NetWorker is an industry leading enterprise-wide, scalable data asset management software solution. It allows backup and restore capabilities in open system distributed environments for large enterprises with thousands of servers and clients. The Amdahl version, A NetWorker software, will be the first product in the company's asset management solution. A NetWorker software operates on multiple platforms, including Windows NT, Solaris, HP-UX and AIX.
"A NetWorker delivers high-speed protection and re-creation of application data, without interrupting access or availability to database applications like SAP's R/3," said Michael Carabetta, vice president and general manager, A Software Group, Amdahl Corporation. "These features make it a powerful asset management solution ideally suited to our customers' requirements."
"This partnership continues Legato's commitment to make NetWorker technology available to partners focused on providing storage management solutions for the enterprise," said Kent Smith, chief operating officer for Legato Systems, Inc. "Of equal importance, the agreement will provide Amdahl with the flexibility it needs to implement customized storage management solutions for large enterprises worldwide."
Amdahl is also marketing A NetWorker software with its existing open systems storage product line, beginning with the LVS 4500 storage system.
"The Amdahl LVS 4500 storage system coupled with A NetWorker allows customers to protect their most critical corporate asset - their data," said Charles Foley, vice president of marketing, Enterprise Storage Systems, Amdahl Corporation. "This combination protects data during online operations, backup and recovery."
