Enterprise Systems Management announces relationship with Perot Systems; UName-It to ensure intranet stability for client

Business Wire, Nov 4, 1996

TUSTIN, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 1996--Enterprise Systems Management (ESM) today announced that it has signed a strategic agreement with Perot Systems to provide intranet management solutions for Perot Systems clients using ESM's flagship product, UName-It.

"ESM is an established leader in providing comprehensive intranet management solutions for companies demanding the ability to share information throughout the enterprise," commented E. Scott Menter, president of ESM.

UName-It spans the enterprise to tie together key resources across administrative domains, unifying them into a cooperative, shared information system. The product enables enterprise-wide control of the name space, defined as the distinguishing information (names, addresses, etc.) about resources such as servers, users, IP addresses, electronic mailing lists and printers that comprise a company's intranet environment.

"The relationship with Perot Systems demonstrates once again ESM's ability to manage a high profile, mission-critical private intranet," Menter concluded.

Perot Systems' Rasesh Trivedi directs a team that provides systems and infrastructure management for its clients. Trivedi's group is responsible for the availability and stability of the production environment.

To meet those requirements, Trivedi's team needed to acquire a set of tools to: 1) Optimize the day to day cost of name space administration, 2) Reduce the potential for service interruptions due to human error and 3) Facilitate delegation of administrative functions to the first line help desk staff.

"We intend to manage thousands of users and systems. After an extensive evaluation, we selected UName-It to meet our requirements for a robust, scaleable environment," stated Trivedi.

Critical to the issue of intranet management is UName-It's ability to provide a single facility for all changes, ensuring that once changes are made they are propagated throughout the distributed environment. The product automatically manages all the moves, adds and changes that are integral to running mission-critical, distributed systems.

Included in the recently announced version, 2.0, are a preview window, more intuitive graphical user interface (GUI) and support for multiple top level domains. The new release offers full schema extensibility, enabling users to add new fields and classes. This feature is a result of customer-driven requirements and can be deployed in companies like Perot Systems.
