HP Cuts Price of HP OmniGo 100 Organizer Plus; Lower Prices on Expandable Organizer and Connectivity Pack Provide Greater Value and a Complete Connected Solution

Business Wire, Oct 1, 1996

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 1996--Maintaining its aggressive consumer pricing strategy, Hewlett-Packard Company today announced it has reduced the price on the HP OmniGo 100 Organizer Plus in the U.S. market by $100, lowering the suggested retail price to $249. HP also reduced the price in the U.S. market on the HP OmniGo 100 Connectivity Pack to $49 from $119. The Connectivity Pack allows users to connect easily to a desktop PC for automatic file management, backup and synchronization.

The price drop reflects differences between HP's entry-level HP OmniGo 100 and its new premium-level HP OmniGo 120 handheld organizer and provides high value to a more demanding market of consumers who have learned how to exploit the features of today's expandable organizers.

The HP OmniGo 100 and 120 are full-featured, expandable organizers, capable of supporting database applications, storing hundreds of personal-contact entries and running dozens of third-party applications. In addition, the HP OmniGo 120 features an enhanced screen display and Pocket Quicken personal-finance software for consumers who want even more functionality.

"From the HP OmniGo 100's initial launch a year ago, HP recognized that handheld-computer buyers wanted a full-featured organizer that could grow with their needs," said Kheng Joo Khaw, general manager of HP's Asia Pacific Personal Computer Division. "Our HP OmniGo 100 and Connectivity Pack create a strong handheld solution that is priced aggressively to offer full functionality with connectivity and expansion at a very affordable price, right in time for the holiday buying season."

Since its debut in October 1995, the HP OmniGo 100 Organizer Plus has received recognition from leading publications and tradeshows, including PC World's World Class Award, WINDOWS Magazine's 1996 Top 100 Hardware Award, Mobile Insights' Mobility Award and COMDEX Asia's Product of Show.

Small enough to fit into a coat pocket, the HP OmniGo 100 provides personal and financial-productivity functions that adapt to the way people live. In addition to incorporating the popular HP 12C financial calculator, the HP OmniGo 100's personal information management system includes pen and keyboard options for input and navigation; appointment, address and telephone books; a "jotter" application for quickly writing and capturing notes or drawings; Graffiti handwriting system; and database capabilities. The HP OmniGo 100 also features an innovative 360-degree rotatable hinge that allows users to fold back the front cover to reveal a keyboard and screen. HP OmniGo Strategy Games and other optional applications also are available.
