Segue Software Announces Automated Testing Of World Wide Web Applications
Business Wire, Oct 10, 1996
NEWTON CENTRE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 10, 1996--Segue Software, Inc. today announced it is working with Netscape Communications Corporation to provide automated testing solutions for World Wide Web applications. The two companies view Netscape Navigator(TM) as a development environment and agree that a cross-platform automated testing solution is an important component for corporate customers developing and deploying Web front ends to client/server applications on the Internet and corporate Intranets.
Segue has developed new technology, code-named "Silk," which will allow Netscape and its customers to test Web content and applications for quality assurance regardless of the authoring and development tools used to create them. Netscape is alpha testing Segue's Silk technology so the company can achieve complete automated test solutions for Netscape Navigator and Netscape's other cross-platform products.
"Netscape wants to provide developers of Web applications written for Netscape Navigator the benefits of automated testing," said Tony Sung, Director of Quality Assurance for Netscape. "Segue's QualityWorks(TM) family of testing tools provides strong regression testing capabilities that cover all of the operating systems supported by Netscape."
Liz Elterman, Segue's President and Chief Executive Officer, sees the Web as the graphical user interface (GUI) of the future. "We've talked extensively with our customers and prospects about their plans over the next year, and more and more of them tell us that they intend to use the Web for delivering their client/server solutions. Segue is committed to providing Netscape and its customers with the tools and methodologies required to achieve full test coverage for Web applications."
Elterman continued, "Segue recognizes that the complexity in testing Web applications goes well beyond multi-platform requirements. Web content is becoming more dynamic and can be created in many different ways." Web applications can be made of up of many different components, including HTML, JavaScript, Java, the Netscape Application Programmer Interface (NSAPI), and Plug-ins from a variety of vendors. Segue's Silk technology provides the capability to seamlessly test all of these components from a single recording or script, and is the industry's premier testing tool for the Web. In addition to creating Web-based tests through recording and scripting, Segue also plans to provide a new version of its Surf! automatic link-testing product which will have broader automatic regression testing capabilities. Together, these products will be offered as QualityWorks for the Web.
Segue Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:SEGU) develops, markets, and supports the QualityWorks family of quality assurance software tools, methodology, and management.
