Business Wire, Oct 14, 1996
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 14, 1996--
Global Internet and ASCII Network Technology announce exclusive
Japanese distribution agreement for Centri Firewall
Global Internet, a leader in Microsoft Windows NT network security, and ASCII Network Technology Inc., a leading Japanese software distributor and systems integrator, Monday announced an exclusive distribution agreement for Global Internet's Centri Firewall.
The agreement identifies ASCII Network Technology as the only, in-country distributor for reseller and direct end user sales of Centri Firewall in Japan.
Centri Firewall is an easy-to-use security solution specifically designed from the ground up for Windows NT enterprise networks and represents the first firewall available in Japan for the Windows NT operating system. Centri Firewall was first introduced into the Japanese market in July and is marketed by IBM-Japan as a firewall kit for the IBM PC Server, and other major resellers.
"We chose to enter into this exclusive distribution agreement with Global Internet because of the company's focus on the Windows NT market, its proven firewall technology and Centri Firewall's outstanding ease of use," said Kazuhiko (Kai) Nishi, ASCII Network Technology president and chairman. "Japan has embraced Windows NT; companies are looking for proven security solutions and we wanted to offer them peace-of-mind."
Based on the industry standard Trusted Information Systems (TIS) Gauntlet Internet Firewall technology, Centri Firewall features an application-proxy architecture, user authentication, Web filtering and caching, support for Secure Socket Layer with HTTP, packet filtering and network address translation (NAT) -- and includes MetaInfo's DNS and Sendmail servers.
Centri Firewall is also the only Windows NT firewall which protects against Java applet-based attacks. The Japanese version of the product includes user documentation and on-line help files in Japanese.
Centri Firewall is designed to provide secure access and internetwork communications between private, internal networks and public, untrusted networks, such as the Internet, or between subnets within a private network.
"Internet access facilitates worldwide communication and yet can create global problems for companies with unprotected networks," Mark R. Kriss, Global Internet executive vice president, said. "Japanese companies understand the importance of network security and are eager to find a reliable solution to protect data on their rapidly expanding Windows NT networks."
For more information, customers can contact ASCII Network Technology at 81-3-5350-1030, e-mail inetinfo@ant.co.jp or on the Internet at http://www.ant.co.jp.
ASCII Network Technology is based in Tokyo and was founded by Nishi in 1994. The company serves to create a better environment for popularizing the Windows NT operating system.
The Global Internet Software Group specializes in security software for the Windows NT operating system. The Global Internet Software Group is a division of Global Internet, a Palo Alto-based full-service internetwork solutions company. -0- NOTE: Microsoft is a registered trademark and Windows NT is a trademark of Microsoft Corp.
