Micron Quantum Devices, Inc., Announces 2 Meg And 4 Meg Smartvoltage Boot Block Flash Memory
Business Wire, Oct 15, 1996
BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15, 1996--Micron Quantum Devices, Inc., (MQD), a subsidiary of Micron Technology, Inc., today announced production of its 2 Meg and 4 Meg SmartVoltage Boot Block Flash memory devices. These devices are designed with NOR architecture and are compatible with industry standard boot block flash architecture. The devices operate at speeds as fast as 60ns.
SmartVoltage(TM) technology allows designers maximum voltage flexibility, enabling single or multiple operating voltages. Read voltages are 3.3V or 5V, and programming voltages are 5V or 12V. These devices are offered in three types of low-profile surface mount packages: 40 lead TSOP, 44 lead SOP and 48 lead TSOP.
"By doing SmartVoltage, we can address a broader range of applications and customers with one part," said Michael Seibert, Flash Memory Marketing Manager for Micron Quantum Devices, Inc. "We believe the 2 Meg and 4 Meg devices give us a solid entry into the mainstream flash market. We will be targeting our 2 Meg and 4 Meg devices at a variety of PC, communications, and networking applications. We are also working on higher density products that are scheduled to be announced in early 1997."
MQD's 2 Meg and 4 Meg SmartVoltage devices are 100% compatible with Intel SmartVoltage Boot Block Flash. In addition to being pin and function compatible with Intel, Micron SmartVoltage Boot Block devices have identical electronic IDs, allowing existing programming algorithms to be implemented. This allows Micron's flash devices to be drop-in replacements for the Intel devices with no hardware or software changes.
The 2 Meg devices are configured in 256Kx8 (MT28F002B1) and 128Kx16/256Kx8 (MT28F200B1) organizations and the 4 Meg devices are configured in 512Kx8 (MT28F004B1) and 256Kx16/512Kx8 (MT28F400B1) organizations. These devices are designed for applications which include code storage for PC BIOS, cellular phones, hard drives, networking equipment and other embedded control applications.
The 2 and 4 Meg boot block flash both have a 16KB hardware locked boot block, two 8KB parameter blocks, and multiple general erase blocks. Access times are 60, 80, and 100ns at 5 volt Vcc, and 90, 110 and 150 at 3.3 volt Vcc. Other options include top or bottom location, extended temperature range, and 2 Meg version optimized for PC BIOS storage.
Production quantities can be ordered now. Pricing for the MT28F002B1 is $5.75 in 10K piece quantities and the MT28F400B1 is $8.55 in 10K piece quantities. For more information, or to order samples, contact Micron Semiconductor Products Inc., at 208/368-3900.
