SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 1996--Cornerstone Imaging, Inc., a provider of hardware and software components for image-enabling standard computing systems, today announced that their PixTools/EZ ActiveX control, designed for adding document imaging functionality to Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 applications, was selected as a premium solution by Microsoft for inclusion in the Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 Starter Kit.
Cornerstone's ActiveX is now included in all retail versions of the Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 Starter Kit, including the standalone retail product and the Internet Explorer Starter Kit that now comes with Windows '95. Cornerstone's PixTools/EZ takes advantage of Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0's support for ActiveX Control technology to provide Internet application developers with the capability to scan, enhance, view, compress, and print paper-based documents.
The Internet: An Effective Way to Manage Paper-Based Information
"Over 90% of the information in business today is on paper," noted Thomas van Overbeek, Cornerstone's President and CEO. "The beauty of the Internet is that it is an effective way to provide millions of users electronic access to that information. Cornerstone's PixTools/EZ ActiveX Control provides Web authors with a simple way to manage the integration of scanned documents into Internet and Intranet applications."
"Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0's open architecture via ActiveX makes it easy to create exciting, interactive web pages," noted David Fester, Microsoft Internet Explorer Product Manager for the Internet platform and tools division at Microsoft. "We are excited to include Cornerstone's ActiveX Control as a premium solution to provide Web authors with powerful control of scanned documents."
Web Authors Deal With Scanned Documents as Easily as Paper Documents
The PixTools/EZ ActiveX Control enables Web authors to scan in single or multi-page documents and deal with them as if they were still in their original paper-based form. Pages can be moved around, deleted, or inserted anywhere in the electronic stack.
Cornerstone's PixTools/EZ ActiveX Control gives developers access to over 145 scanning devices as well as functions such as high speed image display, Scale-To-Gray image enhancement (technology that improves the readability of scanned text by smoothing characters), image rotation, zooming, and compression. In addition, the software supports many file formats including TIFF, PCX, Adobe's PDF, and CALS.
