Larry D. Thompson named vice president of Martindale-Hubbell

NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 2, 1996--Larry D. Thompson, Ph.D., has been named vice president of marketing at Martindale-Hubbell, publishers of the world-renowned Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.
As the vice president of marketing at Martindale-Hubbell, Thompson will be responsible for the company's strategic marketing, as well as implementation of the marketing programs, from corporate headquarters in New Providence.
Thompson has been serving as president of The Michie Co., a leading legal publisher based in Charlotteseville, Va., on a temporary basis since March of this year. During this time, he oversaw the integration of Michie with LEXIS-NEXIS, the world's leading provider of enhanced information services and management tools. LEXIS-NEXIS, based in Dayton, Ohio, Michie and Martindale-Hubbell are all owned by Reed Elsevier Inc.

Thompson joined the Reed Elsevier family of companies in 1994 when he was named vice president of marketing for the Legal Information Services (LIS) unit of LEXIS-NEXIS. Prior to joining LEXIS-NEXIS, he spent nine years with Shepard's, the legal publishing division of McGraw-Hill, serving most recently as vice president of sales and marketing. With an extensive consulting and market research background, Thompson was also president of Directions Research Co., a Denver-based national communications consulting group.
Thompson earned a B.A. degree from Montana State University, and his M.A. degree as well as his Ph.D. from Michigan State University. He is a former professor of mass communications and marketing, and has taught at Denver University, the University of Colorado and Michigan State University.
