PeopleSoft, Inc. Selects Siebel Sales Enterprise; Leading sales and marketing information system to increase PeopleSoft's global field and telemarketing productivity

Business Wire, Oct 24, 1996

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 1996--Siebel Systems, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise-class client/server sales and marketing information software systems, announced today that PeopleSoft, Inc. has selected Siebel Sales Enterprise, a leading sales information system, as its sales and marketing information systems standard.

The value of this transaction exceeds $1 million.

The Siebel Sales Enterprise will eventually be used worldwide by several hundred PeopleSoft sales and marketing professionals. To quickly train new sales representatives and keep existing sales representatives current on new products and services, PeopleSoft marketing professionals will use Siebel Sales Enterprise to provide the sales organization with up-to-the-minute information on PeopleSoft products, competitors, and marketing campaigns.

PeopleSoft will use Siebel Sales Enterprise to improve sales productivity by allowing teams of field and telemarketing representatives to easily share information about opportunities, accounts, and proposals. With Siebel, updates to account status, customer requirements, or even shared action items are immediately available to any member of the sales team, regardless of their physical location.

"PeopleSoft applications are at home in large and complex enterprises, with the ability to handle millions of transactions per month in distributed offices. We require a sales information solution that provides the same characteristics to our sales force. The Siebel Sales Enterprise offers the modern client/server architecture, scalability, and global support we require," said Steve Zarate, chief information officer at PeopleSoft.

"PeopleSoft is an innovator in client/server computing and is known for using advanced technology to improve the way businesses operate. Their selection of Siebel Sales Enterprise reinforces Siebel's position as the technology and market leader in the sales and marketing information systems market," said Thomas M. Siebel, chairman and CEO, Siebel Systems.

PeopleSoft licenses its products through direct sales offices and distributors in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia/Pacific, Latin America, and Africa. To support its rapidly growing global operations, PeopleSoft needed a scalable, configurable sales information solution. The Siebel Sales Enterprise was selected by PeopleSoft based on Siebel's robust functionality, modern technology foundation, and its unmatched ability to share and communicate information on products, opportunities, and accounts across multiple sales channels on a worldwide basis.

Many of PeopleSoft's customers operate in multiple countries. This makes support for multiple, worldwide sales channels a primary requirement. The Siebel Sales Enterprise addresses this need in several ways. First, it is the only leading sales and marketing information system to support multiple languages, including Japanese and major European languages.

Second, Siebel Sales Enterprise supports distributed data repositories across multiple data centers allowing PeopleSoft the option of maintaining all opportunity, prospect, product, and competitive information in a central location or maintaining the data in the appropriate geographic regions around the world.

Finally, Siebel's N-tiered architecture empowers global sales representatives with support for Internet- or intranet-based communication. This makes it cost-effective and easy for field sales representatives to use the Internet to synchronize their portable computers with a central corporate server or operate as a connected client in a client/server configuration wherever an Internet- or intranet connection is available.

PeopleSoft joins a growing list of industry-leading organizations that are turning to Siebel Systems to improve their sales and marketing processes. The Siebel Sales Enterprise has become the sales and marketing information systems standard to increase sales effectiveness in such diverse industries as financial services -- Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., Frank Russell Company, Montgomery Securities, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, and Texas Commerce Bank National Association; networking -- Cisco Systems, Inc., and Newbridge Networks, Inc.; transportation -- American President Companies Ltd., and Viking Freight System, Inc.; computer hardware -- Digital Equipment Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Japan, Ltd., Pyramid Technology, and Pioneer-Standard Electronics; computer software -- Informix Software, Inc., Software AG, and Sybase, Inc.; consumer packaged goods -- The Dial Corp., The Quaker Oats Company, and BAT Company, Ltd.
