STOCKHOLM, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 28, 1996--Ericsson has been awarded a major order for a fixed D-AMPS/AMPS cellular communications network by JV Digital Cellular Communications of Ukraine Ltd (JV DCCU). The order, valued at $30 million, is the largest order ever for any digital wireless system in Ukraine. The order covers installation of a fixed cellular communications network in the cities Kiev, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Charkiv, Odessa and the peninsular Krim.

This fixed cellular network will use the same equipment as other wireless networks, a switch and RBS 884 base stations. This solution offers much better functionality in the phone service, including fax and data communication, with an additional significant advantage, it is much more rapidly implemented, since there are no wires.

JV DCCU, with its headquarters in Donetsk, is one of the largest cellular operators in Ukraine.

Currently there are over 65 million subscribers using D-AMPS/AMPS networks worldwide. Over 4 million of these subscribers are already using D-AMPS and all analog AMPS systems have the potential of migrating to digital D-AMPS in the future. Ericsson's networks support over 24 million of these D-AMPS/AMPS subscribers worldwide.

Ericsson's 85,000 employees are active in more than 100 countries. Their combined expertise in switching, radio and networking makes Ericsson a world leader in telecommunications.
