Sanga's 100% Java suite turns browsers into desktops on Sun's JavaStation

Business Wire, Oct 29, 1996

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 1996--Sanga International today announced its support for Sun Microsystems Inc.'s JavaStation. At a major two-day event in New York City at which Sun is launching the JavaStation, a Java-based network computer, Sanga is illustrating how Sanga Pages solves real-world business problems. Using the 100% Java(tm) Sanga Pages suite, users can transform browsers like HotJava(tm) into powerful desktops that easily create and execute platform-independent, custom applications that directly access and leverage information in virtually any corporate database.

OPENING NEW MARKETS

"The network computer model changes the landscape in the IT industry," said Shane Maine, Sanga CEO. "With computing power moving back to the server, IS managers can eliminate the client/server nightmare of updating client software every 18 months. Companies with market share on the client side, like Microsoft, will have to reinvent themselves or get blown away. With mission-critical solutions such as Sanga Pages enabling full PC-like Java functionality launched from the server, the future of the industry is clearly browser-server computing."

At the JavaStation launch, Sanga is demonstrating how the Pages application suite has been used to develop several mission-critical applications for companies in industries ranging from telecommunications to financial services to transportation, all of which must deal with multiple platforms and data distributed across the enterprise. Sanga Pages provides a development environment which includes easy-to-use, drag-and-drop tools and a robust scripting language that allows even non-technical corporate and commercial users to create a wide array of customized, dynamic, platform-independent Java applications. Pages-based applications can be directly linked to a variety of data sources, including any SQL database, and then run over the Internet or intranet inside any Java-enabled browser.

DESIGNED FOR THE NC FROM THE BEGINNING

"Since day one when we sat down to design Sanga Pages, one of our guiding principles has been to tailor-make it for the network computer," said Mark Lussier, Sanga's chief architect. "Pages' thin client, server-based architecture allows Sanga to offer a compelling solution that runs on any network computer. Because of its pure Java foundation, Sanga Pages runs on the JavaStation today. The cost advantages of network computers are clear and as long as industrial strength applications like Sanga Pages exist, the platform will succeed."

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

Sanga Pages for the JavaStation is available immediately and runs inside HotJava and all other Java-enabled Web browsers. Sanga Pages also runs on all platforms for which a Java Virtual Machine exists. Sanga is committed to creating enterprise-wide solutions for large corporations, so pricing is determined by the number of clients, servers and developer seats needed, as well as the amount of customization and training required. Typical pilot projects range between $15,000 and $25,000 for up to 15 users. Sanga Pages' technology is also available to custom solutions providers and other software developers seeking to develop Java-based versions of their own products.
