TCF Financial chooses Unisys solution to standardize item processing

Business Wire, Oct 3, 1996

BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 1996--Unisys Corp., headquartered here, Thursday announced that it has received a $1.9 million contract to provide Minneapolis-based TCF Financial Corp. with high-speed item processing hardware, software and integration services.

TCF Financial -- a growth-oriented $7 billion organization with offices in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin -- selected the Unisys Item Processing System (IPS) solution to help it reduce costs and improve customer service.

IPS, a modular, networked system offering mature, proven components and state-of-the-art technology, can be managed from a single point and scaled "up" or "down" to meet an institution's changing needs.

Using IPS, TCF Financial will standardize sites in Minneapolis, Ann Arbor (Mich.), and Franklin Park (Ill.) onto a single, industry-accepted item processing platform, greatly reducing supporting, training, and operations costs. Each site will be connected via TCP/IP over an Ethernet LAN to a centrally located Unisys ClearPath server.

"Choosing the Unisys solution was a strategic decision," said Dan Edward, TCF Financial's senior vice president. "It complements our growth strategy, reduces our overall cost of operation, and enables us to easily add imaging capabilities -- when and where our customers demand them. We also expect a cost savings of over half-a-million dollars in the next few years."

Under the terms of the contract, Unisys will deliver the IPS 3.0 application, conversion services and supporting hardware, including a ClearPath processor, 1,825 document-per-minute networked reader sorters, and related equipment.

"We are pleased to partner with an industry player as distinguished as TCF Financial," said Alan Howard, Unisys vice president and managing principal, Payment Systems Practice, Information Services Group. "TCF's installation will be another example of Unisys' success in providing solutions and services that improve our clients' competitiveness, return on investment, and customer service levels."
