CONCENTRA ANNOUNCES $2 MILLION AEROSPACE ORDER FOR ENGINEERING AUTOMATION SOFTWARE; International Manufacturer Plans To Slash Cycle Time On New Airplane Program

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 1996--Concentra Corporation (Nasdaq: CTRA), a leading supplier of engineering automation software to aerospace and automotive manufacturers worldwide, announced today that an international airplane maker has placed a $2,050,000 order for Concentra's A.C.E. (Aircraft Configuration Environment).

A.C.E., an industry-specific design environment based on Concentra's ICAD System(R), was launched last month in England at The Farnborough International Airshow. A.C.E. leverages the Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) capabilities of the ICAD System to capture the critical knowledge of an aerospace company's engineers and designers, resulting in engineering automation of airframe structures, tooling, and configuration problems. The system is capable of creating designs in minutes that previously took months with more traditional engineering tools.

Providing engineering software to the aerospace industry has been a mainstay of Concentra's business: Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier (Shorts), McDonnell Douglas, BAe, IPTN, Aerospatiale and Sikorsky are among the airframe manufacturers already applying the underlying ICAD software to their processes. Boeing, for instance, has used the ICAD technology to automate the conceptual design of their 777 and other airplanes and is now extending its use to design wire harnesses for all its commercial airplanes.
