Trillium Digital Systems Inc. announces release of ATM Forum UNI 4.0 compliant signaling protocols for the Microsoft NT Server and Workstation platforms

Business Wire, Oct 7, 1996

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 1996--Trillium Digital Systems Inc. Monday announced that it has released and shipped its source code software product supporting the ATM Forum UNI 4.0 compliant signalling protocol for the Microsoft NT Server and Workstation platforms.

Trillium's ATM Forum UNI 4.0 compliant signalling protocol suite has been integrated into its existing NDIS 3.0 compliant ATM Signalling and LAN Emulation driver for the Microsoft Windows NT Server and Workstation platforms. This MAC driver software product is comprised of Trillium's de-facto industry standard ATM protocols: Signalling (Q.93B, Q.SAAL, UME), LAN Emulation Client (LEC) and/or LAN Emulation Services (LES/BUS/LECS).

This package provides a "plug and play" solution for Network Interface Cards (NIC) that allows developers to transparently run Microsoft Windows NT transport drivers (i.e., TCP/IP) over ATM Forum UNI 3.0/3.1/4.0 compliant LAN Emulation Networks. NIC card and ATM chip manufacturers need only supply an ATM PHY/SAR driver for their hardware in order to use Trillium's platform. Future releases from Trillium will support Windows NT 4.0 Miniport drivers and Winsock 2.

Trillium has run complete compatibility tests with the ATM Signalling and LAN Emulation protocols using its new portable driver for the PMC-Sierra PCI bus NIC based on the PMC-Sierra LASAR-155 AAL-5 single-chip integrated SAR PHY. A number of similar efforts have been completed or are underway by Trillium and its licensees.

Trillium will participate in the European Advanced Networking Test Center's (EANTC) ATM LAN Emulation Group Interoperability Testing Event scheduled for November 1996 in Berlin. This event in conjunction with Trillium's previous participation and success at the Interphase interoperability tests in May 1996 further demonstrate its commitment to multi-vendor interoperability of these products.

Jeff Lawrence, Trillium's president and chief executive officer, said: "With this new release, we have continued to demonstrate our commitment to timely delivery of high-quality, standards-based software. Our Integrated ATM software solution for Microsoft Windows NT enables NIC card and ATM chip manufacturers to quickly bring up and test their hardware in the fastest growing segment of the NIC card market.

"Where time to market and reliability is everything, Trillium provides the only integrated platform that allows manufacturers to focus on their core competence with complete confidence that the standards-based software required to test their hardware is reliable and compliant across multi-vendor networks."

The Integrated ATM software for the Microsoft NT Server and Workstation platform is available immediately. The ATM Forum UNI 4.0 software can be licensed as an additional variant to Trillium's previously released ATM Forum UNI 3.0, UNI 3.1 and ITU-T Q.2931 protocol software stacks.

Trillium licenses its software products for a one-time fee. The fee includes source software, documentation, a training course and technical support.

Trillium Digital Systems, a privately held company founded in 1988, develops, markets, licenses and supports standards-based portable integrated communications software.
