Micro Focus Ships Object COBOL for UNIX
Business Wire, Oct 8, 1996
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 1996--Micro Focus (NASDAQ: MIFGY) today announced the Micro Focus Object COBOL Developer Suite v4.1 for UNIX, an advanced, integrated client/server programming environment for developing and deploying procedural COBOL and Object COBOL applications on a wide range of UNIX platforms.
This provides Object COBOL users with the advantages of the object-oriented paradigm for creating industrial strength applications on UNIX.
The Object COBOL Developer Suite provides COBOL access to industry-standard, CORBA V2-compliant, Object Request Brokers (ORBs) and COBOL-to-CGI access, for enhanced client/server support during runtime. COBOL access to CORBA V2-compliant ICL Dais ORB technology is provided by the Micro Focus DaisGen interface for an easy route to distributed application deployment for both new and legacy systems.
COBOL programmers can also execute CGI code using standard COBOL syntax such as ACCEPT/DISPLAY without the need to learn complex low-level languages typically associated with CGI programming. Through this facility, access to COBOL business logic can be extended to the corporate Intranet or Internet.
The Developer Suite enables access to large indexed files, greater than two gigabytes, providing Micro Focus COBOL and Object COBOL users with greater scalability of data and applications.
The introduction of the Object COBOL Developer Suite for UNIX brings together Micro Focus' best-of-breed UNIX tools in a robust, cross-platform environment for developing and deploying applications on a wide range of UNIX systems as well as Windows NT, Windows 95 and OS/2 systems. The Micro Focus Object COBOL Developer Suite is comprised of four components: COBOL Compiler for UNIX, Integrated Development Environment, User Interface Design and Development Environment, and Application Portability
