Unify Corp. and BMC Software team to provide end-to-end application management solutions; Unify signs worldwide OEM agreement for BMC Software's PATROL management suite, providing a full application management solution for distributed client/server applications & the Web

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1996--Unify Corporation (NASDAQ: UNFY), a leading provider of client/server software solutions for the development, deployment, and management of high-end, business-critical applications for intranets and the Internet, and BMC Software, Inc., the world's leading provider of application and data management tools, today unveiled an extended partnership agreement designed to provide complete application management for custom applications.

Under the terms of the worldwide agreement, which also outlines joint selling and marketing initiatives, Unify will resell BMC Software's PATROL management suite -- including the PATROL Console, the PATROL Agent, and PATROL Knowledge Modules (KMs) -- for the Unify VISION and DataServer product lines. Unify will also resell BMC Software's PATROL KMs for other products in Unify environments.

Unify and BMC Software currently deliver best-of-breed solutions for the complex development and management requirements of high-end transactional applications that run on both Web and non-Web clients and servers. These automated solutions provide a comprehensive, enterprise-wide management view, increase application availability and performance, and reduce administrative and training costs.

Nature of the Agreement

The PATROL KM for Unify VISION and the PATROL KM for DataServer will give Unify customers the ability to monitor and manage VISION applications and DataServer databases.

Unify will also resell BMC Software's PATROLWATCH(TM) for Web, enabling customers to work in a complete Web-based environment throughout the application lifecycle. Unify customers can develop and deploy Web-based applications using Unify's VISION/Web product, and also monitor the application from a browser using BMC Software's PATROLWATCH for Web.

With this agreement, Unify can now offer their customers the ability to manage the rest of their environment through other PATROL KMs and/or interface with other management products like those from Tivoli, Computer Associates and others.

Pricing and availability

The PATROL KM for Unify VISION and the PATROL KM for DataServer 6.0 are currently in development. Pricing for these PATROL KMs begins at US $1,500 and is based on machine class. Both BMC Software and Unify will utilize direct and indirect sales channels to sell the PATROL KMs in the United States and internationally.
