Security Dynamics to introduce ACE/Server for Windows NT network security software; ACE/Server provides enterprise-wide security for Windows NT environments
Business Wire, Sept 16, 1996
BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1996-- Security Dynamics Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: SDTI), a leading provider of Internet, network and computer security solutions, today announced ACE/Server for Windows NT, the latest version of its ACE/Server(R) network security software. ACE/Server for Windows NT provides network managers with scalable performance to support the authentication needs of enterprise users, easy-to-learn Windows NT-based User Interfaces and seamless integration of security management with corporate information systems. Network administration of SecurID(R) tokens and SoftID authentication software is now optimized for Microsoft Windows NT environments.
New features introduced in ACE/Server for Windows NT include:
-- ACE/Server for Windows NT serves as the platform for Security Dynamics' Windows NT-based database engine, development tools and user interfaces, capitalizing on the market surge and demand for Windows NT-based technology.
-- Administrators can manage the ACE/Server software from distributed Windows NT workstations, allowing for multiple facilities and organizations to share in the administration of a single ACE/Server.
-- All distributed administrative dialogs with ACE/Server for Windows NT are encrypted as they travel across the corporate network allowing for security of SecurID user credentials.
"As organizations continue to standardize on Windows NT for enterprise computing, network managers are challenged to provide the best security possible to protect critical information assets," said Eric Ogren, product manager at Security Dynamics. "With ACE/Server for Windows NT, customers now have access to scalable, fully integrated and easy-to-use security administration to effectively deploy end user security for an entire Windows NT-based environment."
The development of the ACE/Server for Windows NT marks the next stage in this evolution of the award-winning ACE/Server software, as this marks the first opportunity to use Windows NT to manage secure access to corporate information. In addition to ACE/Server for Windows NT, Security Dynamics' ACE/Server also supports SunOS, Solaris, HP-UX and AIX, providing organizations with a variety of enterprise network security solutions.
ACE/Server software is used in conjunction with Security Dynamics' SecurID token, to provide network users with a level of user authentication more secure than the reusable password. The SecurID token provides dynamic, two-factor authentication that combines something the user knows a memorized personal identification number (PIN) with something the user possesses a randomly generated access code that changes every 60 seconds. To access a protected network, a user enters his or her secret PIN followed by the current code displayed on the SecurID token's LCD. This information represents a one-time pass code and is transmitted to the ACE/Server software for verification. This implementation of two-factor authentication provides enhanced security for networks while affording maximum user convenience and cost effectiveness. ACE/Server software centrally manages and administers user profiles and maintains a comprehensive audit trail that records all access attempts.
